Sika Level-02 Primer

Epoxy primer for use on difficult-to-adhere-to substrates beneath SikaLevel underlayments

Sika® Level-02 Primer is a two-part, water-dispersed and solvent-free, epoxy resin based solution used to prime typically problematic or smooth floor surfaces prior to the application of Sika® Level underlayments.

Preparation:

Mixing

Thoroughly pre-stir each component separately to ensure that all solids are evenly distributed and even consistencies are produced. Mix Component A and Component B together in the correct ratio in a clean pail for at least 3 minutes using a low-speed drill with an Exomixer type mixing paddle at 300-450 rpm to minimise air entrapment. During the mixing operation, scrape down the side and bottom of the vessel with a flat or straight edge trowel at least once to ensure complete mixing. When completely mixed Sika Level-02 Primer should be uniform in color and consistency. Mix only that quantity that can be used within its pot life.

Application

Ensure that both substrate and air temperatures are between 50°F and 86°F (10°C and 30°C) before commencing the application of Sika ®Level-02 Primer. The stated application temperatures are to be achieved before priming and should be maintained for a period of at least 3 days after installation of the primer and underlayment. Should colder conditions prevail, make allowance for the use of indirect and vented heaters to achieve and maintain the application temperature required. Where temperatures exceed 86°F (30°C), refer to and follow ACI hot weather application and protection guidelines. Apply Sika ®Level-02 Primer by pouring onto the prepared floor surface within 20 minutes of mixing, discarding material which is not used within this time. Note: Do not turn the mixing vessel upside down onto the floor as unmixed material may be placed on the floor and result in soft spots. Spread the mixed resin using a short nap roller (long nap roller for rougher surfaces), working the material into the prepared substrate and thoroughly covering all contact surfaces due to receive the underlayment. Typically, one single thin application is required; however, porous substrates may require two thin coats of the primer to effectively cover the surface. Ensure coverage is at most 200 to 366 ft ² /US gal (5 to 9 m ²/ltr) per coat, depending upon the substrate, avoiding heavy, thick applications and removing excess material. Where multiple applications are necessary, due to excessive absorption by the substrate, allow previous coats to become transparent and tacky before applying further primer. When first applied, Sika Level-02 Primer appears milky white; once it is transparent and tacky it is ready for overlaying. This facilitates quality control in terms of complete coverage and clearly confirms when the underlayment can be installed. To ensure proper adhesion, Sika ®Level underlayments are applied within 4 hours of the application of the Sika ®Level-02 Primer, but only once the primer is transparent (without milky spots) but tacky to the touch (typically after a minimum of 1/2 hour drying time under normal environmental conditions). Lower temperatures and/or humid conditions may extend the drying time between priming coats or before installation of the underlayment.

Coverage:

200 to 366 ft²/US gal (5.0 - 9.0 m²/ltr) per coat approx. Coverage figures are for estimating purposes and do not include allowance for surface profile or material waste. Actual coverage may vary depending upon substrate conditions, application technique, and thickness applied.
