Project Background

Twin Peaks Reservoir in the City of San Francisco was originally built in August 1910 - nearly 105 years old. It was built as an auxiliary water supply system for fire protection. Over time the structure began to loose water and it was taken out of service. The City of San Francisco has been without this critical water supply for fire fighting for many years. In December 2011, Sika products were recommended to get the structure back in service. The design took about 2 years and the work began in Fall 2014. Today the reservoir has been given new life and is now back in service, and most importantly, 100% leak free! As the project goes into its phase 2, Sika continues to provide excellent design recommendations and field support. That is the reason why the City of San Franciaco Department of Public Work (SFPUC) over the past 20+ years trusts the advice of Sika on every SFPUC project - reservoir, water plant, wwtp, etc

Sika Product Solution

For the numerous failed and leaking joints of on the original sloped surfaces, Sika sealed with Sikaflex 2c NS and 8" Combiflex SG at every 8' and in some locations every 10' to prevent leakage. At every 20 ' in each direction are horizontal floor joints now sealed with Sikaflex 2c SL and 8" Combiflex SG.
