Understanding The Difference Between Sika Anchorfix-1 & Anchorfix-2: Which Should You Use?
Anchoring Explained & What To Use
Anchoring is a way of fastening components into hardened building materials. This process is often used to reinforce or secure components that provide sturdiness in place. For example, an element such as a steel bolt or rod can be cast into a concrete or masonry foundation. This transfers a certain amount of load throughout the installation and ensures that a structure can be erected safely while withstanding various conditions and stresses.
While many systems and practices can be used and applied in an anchoring job, one of the most common among homeowners and DIY’ers is anchoring adhesives. These adhesives are used to join anchors and dowel systems with the rest of the structure by filling the joint space that connects the two and hardening to ensure everything is securely in place. Because of this, anchoring adhesives are durable, reliable, and often trusted when working with concrete, masonry, stone, brick, and other solid structures.
Now, we will look at Sika PRO Select’s innovative solutions to anchoring projects, the Sika Anchorfix-1 and Sika Anchorfix-2 adhesives. While they both provide the highest quality anchoring, users should be aware of the similarities and differences between the two when choosing the desired outcome of a project.
What is Sika Anchorfix-1?
Sika Anchorfix-1 is a high-strength, fast-setting, two-component, styrene-free polyester resin adhesive anchoring system that has been specially formulated for high-performance in common anchoring projects. This product is best suited for light to medium duty projects involving the anchoring of rebar, threaded rods bolts, and other fastening/reinforcing systems to uncracked concrete, solid masonry, hard natural stone and solid rock. It is available in a 10 oz. cartridge and can fit most standard caulking guns. Some advantages that are provided compared to other anchoring adhesives include its ability to be used in subfreezing temperatures (-40°F to 122°F), the non-sag properties allow for use in both horizontal and vertical applications, and the inclusion of mixing nozzles that allow the components within the cartridge to self-mix before application.
Examples of common projects that Sika Anchorfix-1 may be used for include setting rebar, railing installations, reinforcing steel, and fastening objects such as plates, mounts, and other systems to walls.
What is Sika Anchorfix-2?
Sika Anchorfix-2 is a super-strength, fast-setting, two-component, solvent/styrene free epoxy acrylate based adhesive anchoring system that has been specially formulated for high-performance in heavy-duty anchoring projects. This product is best used in anchoring projects that require additional strength and have a higher-load capacity or holding value. It can be used in the anchoring of rebar, base plates, columns, threaded rods, pipes, bolts, and other fastening/reinforcing systems to concrete, solid masonry, steel, hard natural stone and solid rock. Much like the Anchorfix-1, it is also available in a 10 oz. cartridge, can fit most standard caulking guns, includes mixing nozzles, and has non-sag properties that allow it to be used vertically, horizontally and overhead. Advantages unique to the Anchorfix-2 include low wastage, it’s ANSI / NFS 61 certification (meaning it is safe for contact with drinking water), allowing for anchoring without expansion forces as well as fixing close to free edges, and having a versatile range of embedment depths. Other official approvals unique to the Anchorfix-2 are ESR to AC308 by ICC-ES and ESR to AC308 by IAPMO-UES.
Examples of heavy-duty projects that Sika Anchorfix-2 may be used for include setting columns, ladder and bike rack installations, securing overhead lights, mounting satellite dishes and fixing/reinforcing walls and floors.
