What should I do if I see numerous air bubbles on top of Sikaflex+ Crack Flex Sealant, after hours of dry time?

If the joint is deep or very narrow (past the 1/2” depth limitation), the sealant will travel down pushing the air out. Most bubbles will pop but if they reach the surface when the sealant is "skinning" over, they will not. It is also recommended to keep the nozzle in the sealant while dispensing. You can apply another layer of Sikaflex Crack Flex Sealant on top, to hide the voids.

My basement floor is seeping water through the hairline crack during heavy rain. Should I use Sikaflex+ Crack Flex Sealant? Do I need to open up the crack so the sealant can get in?

You can use Sikaflex+ Crack Flex Sealant for your application. Please note that if the hydrostatic pressure is great, the sealant may fail. This would be the result with any sealant. The minimum depth and width requirement of the crack must be at least 1/4" x 1/4". If the crack does not meet this requirement, you can use a chisel and hammer to widen it.

How soon after the application of Sikaflex+ Crack Flex Sealant can it be painted?

Sikaflex+ Crack Flex Sealant will take 3 to 5 days to cure, but typically it cures faster. Sika has found that oil, water, and rubber based paints work the best, but testing is always recommended since there are so many different variations. Sika recommends painting a small area to initially test the paint. Do not use paints that are silicone based paints or paints with high solvent content. Paint manufacturers should be contacted for compatibility recommendations. They would know the surfaces which are approved to bond to. Sikaflex+ Crack Flex Sealant is a 100% polyurethane sealant.

After hours of dry time, why are there air bubbles on top of the Sikaflex+ Crack Flex Sealant?

If the joint is deep or very narrow (past the 1/2 inch depth limitation), the sealant will travel down, pushing air out. Most bubbles will pop, but if they reach the surface when the sealant is "skinning" over, they will not burst. It is highly recommended to keep the cartridge nozzle in the sealant while dispensing the product to avoid the occurrence of these air bubbles. To improve the aesthetics, you can apply another layer of Sikaflex Crack Flex Sealant on top to hide the voids.

What can be used to clean tools that I have used in the application of your polyurethane sealants?

If the product is still soft, Xylene or MEK can be used to clean the tools but because these are solvents, be very careful. Safety goggles and chemically resistant gloves should be worn. Can a second layer of Sikaflex+ Self Leveling Sealant be applied over a current one?

Sikaflex+ Self Leveling Sealant and all of Sika's polyurethane sealants will bond to themselves. The surface of the sealant must be clean. Please allow the product to cure for 3 to 5 days. It will cure to a flexible and elastic consistency. After, you can wipe the surface with water and a clean rag to remove any debris on the sealant. Once the sealant is dry, reapply the second layer. If the sealant is more than a month old, a solvent wipe with a rag is recommended. Xylene or Acetone can be used, allow the solvent to fully flash off. You do not want to trap any solvent between the layers of sealant.
