Sikacryl® Ready-Mix Concrete Patch Coasters
DIY concrete coasters using Sikacryl® Ready-Mix Concrete Patch
Supplies & Tools
- Safety Glasses
- Gloves
- Felt Cupboard Door Discs
- Petri Dishes
- Scissors
- Acrylic Paint
- Box Knife
- Blue Masking Tape
Step 1: Preparation
Cover the work area and place the Petri dishes next to each other. We used Petri dishes which can be ordered online, for example on Amazon. The ones used have a diameter of 8.5mm.
Step 2: Filling the Petri Dishes
Use a putty knife or trowel to apply Sikacryl® Ready-Mix Concrete Patch into the Petri dishes, filling them up to the rim (do not overfill them). If some is applied over the edge, remove it immediately to keep level with the rim. Allow molds to dry for at least 24 hours.
Note: You'll need to lay 1 or 2 boards at a time before applying more SikaBond Construction Adhesive.
Step 3: Removing Petri Dishes
With a box knife, cut open and remove the Petri dishes. Use a rubber spatula to help remove Petri dish without scratching the surface.
Step 4: Tape & Paint
We used blue masking tape to ensure straight lines before painting the coasters. We found that acrylic paint works best for this application.
Step 5: Tips
After the paint has dried, check the bottom of each coaster for roughness. We suggest adding felt pads or cupboard discs to protect against scratching your surfaces.
