DIY Garden Hose Hanger Post
Instead of tossing my garden hose on the ground and damaging my lawn, I decided to install a post near the spigot for easy storage. Instead of mixing concrete, I chose to use Sika PostFix for my post setting.
Supplies & Tools
- Shovel
- Level
- Utility Knife
- Safety Glasses & Gloves
- (2) Sika® PostFix® Bags
- (1) 4" x 4" x 6' Treated Wooden Post
- Garden Hose Hanger
- Cordless Drill
Step 1: Dig Hole & Level Post
To begin my project, I needed to dig my post hole approximately 2 ft. in depth and 8-10 in. in diameter. Next, I placed my post directly in the center on the hole making sure it was level. Once I pour the PostFix into my hole, I'll have an opportunity to readjust and check my post making sure it's still level for approximately 10 seconds.
Step 2: Roll & Mix
Next, I placed my Sika PostFix bag directly next to my hole to begin the mixing process. Per the instructions printed on the packaging, I set the bag on a flat surface and rolled in the direction of the red arrows (like a tube of toothpaste) until the middle seal ruptured, allowing the PostFix reaction to start. To mix, I grabbed both ends of the bag holding it horizontally and started to shake it back and forth vigorously for 15 seconds.
Step 3: Cut
Immediately after mixing, I used my knife to cut at the specified corner to prepare for pouring.
Note: You'll need to lay 1 or 2 boards at a time before applying more SikaBond Construction Adhesive.
Step 4: Pour
I then poured the mixed material into the hole, making sure to coat the post on all sides as I poured.
Pro Tip: Pour mixed material on the post itself for improved support & to protect the base of post.
Expanding Foam
Within seconds Sika PostFix started to expand and fill my hole. I was able to adjust the post slightly, making sure it was level prior to it being fully cured. After about 3 to 5 minutes I was able to let the post stand on its own. For this project, I needed an additional bag of PostFix. After 2 hours, my post was completely set.
Pro Tip: Pour mixed material on the post itself for improved support & to protect the base of post.
Trim & Cover
To finish up the post, I trimmed away the excess foam and covered with some dirt I set aside.
Mounting Holder
The garden hose mount was easy to install. I just made two pilot holes and screwed the screws in about halfway. After hanging the hose mount I finished screwing them in, making sure it was sturdy.
