The Impact & Prosperity Epicenter at the David Eccles School of Business is a dynamic hub designed to foster innovation, collaboration, and social impact at the University of Utah. This 780-bed student residence integrates living and learning spaces, serving as a launchpad for the next generation of social impact leaders. With working labs from both the Sorenson Impact Center and the Business, Health, and Prosperity Center, the building creates a unique environment where students, faculty, and global partners can connect, share knowledge, and drive meaningful change.
To align with the project’s ambitious energy targets, the original full-brick design evolved to an EIFS (Exterior Insulation and Finish System) with thin brick, balancing traditional aesthetics with high-performance efficiency. Senergy's Channeled Adhesive CI Design with SikaWall-1000 MaxGrip Veneer Adhesive is an innovative cladding system that allowed the project team to achieve the classic brick exterior while maintaining superior insulation, reduced structural weight, and enhanced durability. The all-electric heating and cooling systems, combined with low-energy appliances and water-saving fixtures, ensure the building operates with minimal environmental impact. Additionally, the continuous insulation (CI) and air and water-resistive barrier within the EIFS system eliminate thermal bridging and reduce the risk of moisture intrusion, enhancing energy performance and long-term cost savings.
By integrating EIFS with thin brick, the Impact & Prosperity Epicenter achieves a harmonious blend of sustainability, resilience, and design excellence. The solution not only met the university’s vision but also delivered a high-performing building that supports students’ aspirations while minimizing its carbon footprint. Through this approach, the Epicenter stands as a model for energy-efficient, forward-thinking campus development.
