Originally the parish wanted to bring St. Gerard Church, which closed its doors in 2008 in Buffalo, New York to Peachtree Corners, Georgia—stone by stone. However, it became clear that moving the church would be too costly. The parish determined the next best option would be to bring inspiration and artifacts from St. Gerard to Mary Our Queen Church.
St. Gerard Church was modeled after the Papal Basilica St. Paul outside the walls in Rome. Since it was important to the parish to create an elegant look and feel, reminiscent of St. Gerard, EIFS became the ideal choice, specifically Pebbletex CI-DCA system with Limestone Finish. The high-performance system features continuous insulation and continuous air and water resistive barrier, while the finish is highly durable and weather-resistant, helping the church achieve the desired exterior aesthetic as well as reduced energy and maintenance costs. The 37,500 sq. ft. church uses 20,000 sq. ft. of EIFS cladding.
The project was recognized with the Award of Merit at the 2019 EIMA Hero Awards, presented by EIFS Industry Members Association (EIMA).
