SikaWall® Carvable Mortar

15 months, properly stored in original containers.

Store off ground and protect from moisture and direct sun, do not allow to freeze.

Acceptable substrates:

• Metal Lath or Welded Wire Stucco Netting
• Rocks
• Concrete masonry Units /Brick 
• Stucco basecoats

Depending on the condition of the substrate, thickness and method of application, approximate coverage per bag is: 40 ft2 at 3/8” thickness.

• All surfaces to receive application must be clean and free of debris, dirt, dust, efflorescence, grease, oils, curing agents, rust/corrosion, and cleaning solutions.
• Ensure that all surfaces are smooth and free of irregularities.
• Repair all cracks with the appropriate patching material for the substrate.
• When applying over a cementitious surface, dampen all surfaces with water, allowing absorption prior to application.

Use clean equipment for mixing and preparation.

• SikaWall® Carvable Mortar requires approximately 2-2.5 gal (8.2-9.3L) of cool clean potable water per 80 lb bag. For machine mixing, use a pressure of 10 to 12 bars and mix between 3 and 5 minutes.
• For hand mixing: use a heavy duty ½ in. (13mm) drill with a rust free paddle at 400-500 rpm. Avoid air entrainment. Mix to a homogeneous consistency.
• Let the mixture stand for 5 to 10 minutes to achieve a false set, then remix again until the mixture is smooth and creamy. SikaWall® Carvable Mortar should be used immediately after tempering.
• No additives of any kind, such as rapid binders, antifreeze, accelerators, fillers, pigments, etc., should be added under any circumstance.

SikaWall® Carvable Mortar is water-soluble prior to drying. Clean tools and containers with water before polymer/cement mixture sets.

• For relief structures or sculptures, the application must be on a metal framework affixed to a support structure.
• Any non-homogeneous substrates or applications thicker than 1 1/8” also require a metal framework for support.
• Start by applying a 3/4” first coat to skim and add strength to the structure.
• Allow to dry 4-36 hours depending on climate conditions, then apply successive coats to achieve the desired thickness and shape, up to 6” in total thickness. Wait 15 min between coats to allow previous coat to set. Carve the material as soon as the product becomes rigid.
• A wet brush can be used to smooth the surface after carving. Moist cure for 48 hours once product has set. Finish (paint, cement finish, stucco or another coat of SikaWall® Carvable Mortar) can be applied 7 days after the product has set.
