NOTES ON INSTALLATION
- Do not apply over freshly treated wood; it must have weathered for at least 6 months.
- SikaBond®-622 should not come into contact with oil-based caulking, silicone sealants, polysulfides, or fillers impregnated with oil, asphalt, or tar.
- Do not use in joints deeper than 1/2".
- SikaBond®-622 is not recommended for continuous water immersion.
- Make certain the most current versions of the product data sheet and SDS are being used.
- Proper application is the responsibility of the user. Field visits by Sika personnel are for the purpose of making technical recommendations only and not for supervising or providing quality control on the jobsite.
SUBSTRATE PREPARATION
- Surfaces must be dry, clean, and free of dirt, moisture, loose particles, oil, grease, asphalt, tar, paint, wax, rust, waterproofing, or other contaminants.
- On metal surfaces, remove scale, rust, or other coatings to expose a bright white surface. Aluminum window frames are frequently coated with a clear lacquer that must be removed before the application of SikaBond®-622.
- Clean concrete, stone, and other masonry surfaces by grinding, sandblasting, or wire brushing. Expose a sound surface free of contamination and laitance.
- Wood surfaces must be clean and sound. Scrape away any paint to bare wood.
APPLICATION
- SikaBond®-622 bonds well to a variety of substrates and is ideally suited for use in interior/exterior joints, waterproofing overlap seams, fascia, and other structural components. SikaBond®-622 remains permanently elastic for long-lasting performance.
- Surface temperatures above 40 °F (4 °C) are recommended during application. SikaBond®-622 can be applied below freezing temperatures only if substrates are completely dry, free of moisture, and clean.
- SikaBond®-622 comes ready to use. Do not open cartridges until preparatory work has been completed. Trim nozzle to desired size opening. Place cartridge in dispensing gun and puncture seal inside nozzle.
- Fill joints from the deepest point to the surface by holding a properly sized nozzle against the back of the joint.
- Dry tooling is recommended.
CLEANING OF TOOLS
Immediately after use, clean the equipment with the appropriate solvent. Use proper precautions when handling solvents. Cured sealant can be removed by cutting with a sharp-edged tool. Thin films by abrading.
