This single-family home in McAllen, Texas is a newly constructed with an adjoining casita, both clad in EIFS to achieve a cohesive aesthetic and superior performance in the South Texas climate. Originally designed as a cement board stucco home with stone veneer, the owner sought a solution that could better handle extreme heat while offering design flexibility. EIFS provided the ideal alternative, allowing the project team to create a seamless transition between the main residence and casita while incorporating elevated stone‑accented details. The primary home features EIFS with a hydrophobic fine finish, delivering a traditional stucco appearance withenhanced resistance to moisture, dirt, and weathering.

For the casita, the owner prioritized both acoustics and modern visual appeal. The team incorporated 2"‑thick raised EIFS panels in varying 2"x4" configurations with smooth and textured finishes to improve sound control and create a sculpted, contemporary look. During design review, the notable energy‑efficiency advantages of EIFS over cement board stucco became a key factor, particularly the ability to wrap the building in continuous insulation. This approach significantly reduces thermal bridging, resulting in improved interior comfort and reduced heating and cooling costs. Ultimately, the decision to transition the full exterior to EIFS, complete with an air‑ and water‑management system, provided durability, efficiency, and design freedom
that aligned perfectly with the owner's vision for this modern Texas residence.
