SikaBit® Primer AW

Waterbased Polymer Modified Primer for Self-adhering Membranes

SikaBit® Primer AW is designed for use as a primer prior to the installation of self-adhering membranes. This thin solution readily penetrates pores and dries fast to provide a tacky, firm substrate for adhesion of the membranes. It is suitable for use over asphalt, wood, plywood, gypsum board and concrete surfaces.

Storage Conditions

Store in a clean and dry area with temperatures between 50–100 °F. Do not store in direct sunlight. Do not allow to freeze. If material becomes frozen, do not use, dispose of material that has been frozen properly in accordance with local regulations.

Application steps

SUBSTRATE PREPARATION

All surfaces to be primed must be dry and free from dust, dirt, oil, grease and any other foreign matter. All surfaces must be free from frost. Surface and air temperature must be 40 °F and rising.

APPLICATION

Apply SikaBit® Primer AW by brush, roller or hand sprayer at a rate of 450–500 ft2/gal. Allow primer to dry one hour or until primer is slightly tacky. Drying time may be longer in cooler temperatures. Reprime if area is contaminated by dust or other debris, apply SikaBit® S-60 as soon as primer is dry. NEVER apply primer directly to SikaBit® membrane.

  

Do not apply when rain is imminent. Protect from freezing. Primer must be dried before exposure to water. Store between 50 °F and 100 °F. Keep container covered when not in use. Do not thin or dilute. Cover air intake area(s) during application and while drying.

  

Cure Mechanism

Product fully cures in 2 hours at 77 °F and 50 % RH.

     

Removal

Uncured materials may be cleaned with water. Cured material may be cleaned with mineral spirits or similar solvent. When using a solvent, strictly follow solvent manufacturer’s warnings and instructions for use.
