Application
Substrates
- Portland Cement Plaster (Stucco) scratch or brown coat complying with ASTMC 926
- PermaBase® Cement Board and other cement boards conforming with ASTM C1325 (Type A - exterior)
- Poured and precast concrete/unit masonry coated with Parex Weatherblock VB AB air/water-resisitve barrier
- Poured and precast concrete/unit masonry coated with Sika ThoroSeal 581
Pot Life
Working time is 1-2 hours after water has been added. Open time is affected by humidity, temperature, and other environmental conditions.
Cure Time
- Allow veneer adhesive to cure for 24-hours before applying pointing mortar (if used).
- Protect from freezing for minimum of 72-hours after installation.
- Do not apply if rain is forecast within the next 24-hours.
Coverage
As Skim Coat: 90 ft2 (8.4m2)
Think Brick Adhesive: 34-46 ft2 (3.1-4.3m2) at 3/16"-1/4"
Stone Adhesive: 23-34 ft2 (2.1-3.1m2) at 1/4"-3/8"
Coverage rates will vary based on type of application. Profile on back of veneer may also affect coverage rates.
SUBSTRATE PREPARATION
Surfaces shall be clean, free of dirt, oil, grease, paint, concrete sealers, form releasing agents or curing compounds, and are structurally sound.
- All surfaces shall be between 40°F (4.5 °C), and 100°F (38 °C).
- Ensure that all control and expansion joints are not covered with PAREX® Masonry Veneer Adhesive.
- Do not wet skim coat or veneer with water prior to installation.
MIXING
Prepare to mix one bag in a 5-gallon (19-liter) pail that is clean and free of foreign substances. Add the following amount of clean, potable water to a pail:
- For skim coat or thin brick veneer: 1.0-1.5 gal (3.8- 4.7L).
- Stone and tile: 0.75-1.25 gal (2.8-3.8L). Add a full bag of PAREX® Masonry Veneer Adhesive to the pail in small increments, mixing after each addition. Mix with a low speed drill and 4-sided mortar paddle until thoroughly blended. Let stand for 5 to 10 minutes, then remix /retemper for 1 minute before use. The mixed material should have a thick putty consistency and not slide off the trowel when held vertically.
- Do not exceed the total amount of water listed above. Do not use pails that have contained or been cleaned with a petroleum based product.
- Additives are not permitted.
- Protect from direct sun and wind.
- Close container when not in use.
- Clean tools with soap and water immediately after use. Dried material can only be removed mechanically.
APPLICATION
For Parex® MVS CI systems, portland cement stucco brown coat, cement board, CMU, poured in place or precast concrete substrates, apply PAREX® Masonry Veneer Adhesive as a skim coat over the acceptable substrate at approximately 1/16” (1.6mm) thick. Apply to an area that can be covered with adhered veneer before the skim coat dries. Allow skim coat layer to set for 3- 5 minutes, then proceed with adhering the selected veneer. Veneer adhesive shall be applied and veneer installed such that the PAREX® Masonry Veneer Adhesive is free of voids.
- Thin Brick Units: spread veneer adhesive onto the back of bricks in a continuous layer nominally 3/16”-1/4” thick and press bricks firmly into place on the substrate.
- Stone Veneer: apply veneer adhesive to the back of clean stone veneer in a continuous layer nominally 1/4”-3/8” thick. Press firmly in place with a twisting movement until excess material exudes from the sides of the unit. Remove excess PAREX® Masonry Veneer Adhesive between units.
- Ceramic Tile: installation should proceed in accordance with ANSI A 108.5 (the type and size of the tile will dictate adhesive application- contact Sika Facades Technical Department for more specific information).
Refer to respective manufacturer instructions for veneer and pointing mortar.
