Sika Corporation is proud to announce that James Chapman, Richardson Glass and Raul Plascencia, Direct Glass Service, two Sika Auto Glass Replacement (AGR) customers, have taken first and second place in the 2023 XYG Auto Glass Technician Olympics, held during the Auto Glass Week Convention, September 18-22nd in Virginia Beach, Virginia.

Both technicians bested 18 other competitors in the foremost international automotive competition designed to find the top technician who completes the best overall automotive glass installation. Competitors are judged on professionalism, credentials, and knowledge; technician comportment and vehicle safety inspection; proper product, equipment, and tools usage; proper auto glass removal and installation procedures and techniques; and post-installation and customer procedures. Auto Glass Week is an annual event showcasing advancements and innovations in the OE and aftermarket auto glass repair, replacement, and calibration industries.
James Chapman from Richardson Glass Service in Newark, Ohio took home the gold medal in this extremely competitive contest. Along with $10,000 in champion prize money, organizers of the event awarded James the title of “World's Best Auto Glass Installer.” Another strong finish in second place was Raul Plascencia, representing Direct Quality Auto Glass in San Bernardino, CA. Raul’s silver medal performance earned him $2,500.
During the competition, James and Raul both used SikaTack® ULTIMATE, Sika's first-to-market primerless, 30-minute Minimum Drive Away Time (MDAT) adhesive. This product is a cold-applied, fast-curing, high-viscosity polyurethane adhesive, designed for use in replacing direct-glazed automotive glass parts on glass or ceramic frit – without the use of any pre-treatment. SikaTack® ULTIMATE is the first of its kind in the 30-minute MDAT and primerless category.
