Sika Celebrates More than Four Decades of Sikaflex® Challenge Build-a-Boat Contests

Madison Heights, MI – Sika proudly announces their sponsorship of the 2026 Sikaflex® Challenge Build-a-Boat Cup Series, continuing support of over 40 years. The 2026 season kicked off June 20 at the 50th Annual Norfolk Harborfest celebration in Norfolk, Virginia. The event coincides with Sail250®, Norfolk’s commemoration of 250 years of American history.

These fun, family-friendly boat building events challenge contestants to design, build, and race their creations, constructed only with the Sikaflex®-291 multipurpose marine adhesive/sealant, two sheets of plywood, and zip ties. No nails, screws, or other mechanical fastening devices are allowed. Participants are able to showcase their creative skills and talents as boatbuilders and racers. Teams have limited time to complete construction of their vessels, with special attention given to quality & craftsmanship, creativity, and of course, their speed on the water.

Sikaflex® Challenge events are held at summer festivals and other gatherings around the country, where thousands of spectators watch and cheer as competitors race across the water. Additional events include the Door County Classic & Wooden Boat Festival in Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin, August 1-2, and the 14th Annual Sikaflex® “Quick & Dirty” Boat Building Competition in Long Island, New York, August 22-23.

Each year, Sika remains impressed with the creative, one-of-a-kind and innovative boat design concepts that participants come up with. Whether boats glide across the finish line or competitors end up in the water, the Sikaflex® Challenge is always a winning experience for participants and spectators.
