SikaLastomer®-714

Thixotropic butyl sealant

SikaLastomer®-714 is a pasty, thixotropic, butyl-based, solvent-containing sealant that does not cure and can be dabbed with itself. This ensures a technically and visually clean seal without extra cleaning aids. The Product is used for permanently plastic sealing in numerous industrial applications. It is specifically suited for parts that need to be removed for repairs or maintenance.

Usage

SikaLastomer®-714 is used for sealing and forming of plastic joints. It is particularly suitable for components that need to be easily disassembled later for repair or maintenance. It is widely used in the manufacturing and maintenance of buses, caravans, campers, automobiles and in other similar industrial applications. SikaLastomer®-714 adheres to most clean and dry substrates without surface preparation and is easy to tool. Consider, due to the fact that SikaLastomer®-714 is a pure sealant, the parts to be sealed must be mechanically fastened. This product is suitable for experienced professional users only. Tests with actual substrates and conditions have to be performed ensuring adhesion and material compatibility.

Technical Information

CHEMICAL RESISTANCE

SikaLastomer®-714 is resistant to fresh water, seawater, limewater, aqueous cleaning solutions; however, it is not resistant to motor fuels, oils and solvents.

Surface Preparation

The surface must be clean, free from dust, grease, oil and water.

Application

Apply the sealant into the joint avoiding air entrapments or apply a continous bead on the sealing area before joining the substrate. Apply enough product so that it squeezes out slightly, allowing it to be properly tooled afterward.

Do not apply at temperatures below 5 °C (41 °F) or above 35 °C (95 °F).

SikaLastomer®-714 can be processed by suitable manual or pneumatic dispenser.

Tooling and finishing

The sealant can be dabbed off by itself a few minutes after it has been applied.

Finishing agents must be tested for suitability and compatibility prior the use.

Removal

Uncured SikaLastomer®-714 can be removed from tools or the work area with the help of Sika® Remover-208. On non-porous surfaces let sealant dry and remove it by dabbing it off.

Hands and exposed skin have to be washed immediately using a suitable industrial hand cleaner and water.

Do not use solvents on skin.

 

Overpainting

SikaLastomer®-714 can not be overpainted.

STORAGE CONDITIONS

SikaLastomer®-714 has to be kept between 10 °C (50 °F) and 30 °C (86 °F) in a dry place. Do not expose it to direct sunlight or frost.
