Sika® Grout Aid

Expanding, water-reducing, retarding high-lift grouting aid

Sika® Grout Aid is a balanced blend of expanding, retarding, and water-reducing agents for Portland cement grouts. It provides a slow, controlled expansion prior to the grout hardening.

  • A water reduction of at least 10 % is typical with the use of Sika® Grout Aid.
  • Expansion action largely compensates for loss of grout volume.
  • Increased water retention extends length of time that grout remains plastic so it may be vibrated.
  • Allows for leaner mix.
  • Superior place-ability and expansion in-place reduces cracks and cold joints.
  • Retardation of setting time allows a longer period of time for expansive action to take place.
  • Higher shear and bond values.

Usage

Use for high-lift grouting of all concrete block and clay brick.

Mixing Ratio

~ 1 lb (454 g) of Sika® Grout Aid per 100 lbs (45.4 kg) of cementitious material.

  • The following typical mix design serves only as a basis for trial mixes.
  • Actual mix designs must be tested prior to use.
  • Proportions are by weight, unless noted.
 
Application steps

MIXING

  • Sika® Grout Aid is added in powder form to the grout mix in the transit-mixer at the job site in order to assure its action will not be altered by length of haul, mixer speed, or temperature build-up.
  • Add slowly - if added too rapidly, lumps or balls may form.
  • Sika® Grout Aid may be premixed with water and added as a solution provided correct dosage is maintained.

     

The Grout Mix shall contain:

  • no less than 6 sacks of Type I or Type II Portland cement (preferably low alkali)
  • 60 to 65 % sand
  • 35–40 % pea gravel
  • 6 lbs. of Sika® Grout Aid per yard

A slump of 8 to 10" (20.3-25.4 cm) should be maintained.
