SikaCem® Summer Extender

Summer Additive For Rapid Hardening, Cementitious Repair Mortars

SikaCem® Summer Extender is an additive for rapid hardening, cementitious mortars (e.g. SikaQuick®-1000 / SikaQuick®-1000 LD, SikaQuick®-2500, SikaQuick® VOH / SikaQuick® VOH LD, SikaQuick®-800, Sikacrete®-421 CI Rapid) formulated to increase their Application Times without affecting their workability or compressive strength development.

Usage

With rapid hardening, cementitious mortars (e.g. SikaQuick®-1000 / SikaQuick®-1000 LD, SikaQuick®-2500, SikaQuick® VOH / SikaQuick® VOH LD, SikaQuick®-800, Sikacrete 421®-CI Rapid) when warmer ambient and substrate temperatures rise to 75 - 100 °F (24 - 38 °C).

Shelf Life

12 months from date of production if stored properly in original, unopened and undamaged, sealed packaging.

Storage Conditions

Store in cool, dry, well ventilated conditions, out of direct sunlight at 40 - 95 °F (4 - 35 °C).
Protect powder from moisture. If permitted to become damp, discard material.

Consumption

Recommended Dosage

Depending on the selected SikaQuick® repair mortar, typical Application Times range between approximately 15 to 30 minutes at 75 °F (24 °C), 50% Relative Humidity. Please consult the current product data sheet for the selected SikaQuick® repair mortar for additional information.

Recommended dosage to increase typical Application Time by approximately 15 minutes based on actual ambient and substrate temperatures for:

  • 50 lb (22.7 kg) bag of SikaQuick®-1000 / SikaQuick®-1000 LD
  • 50 lb (22.7 kg) bag of SikaQuick®-2500
  • 44 lb (20.0 kg) bag/pail of SikaQuick® VOH / SikaQuick® VOH LD
  • 50 lb (22.7 kg) pail of SikaQuick®-800
  • 65 lb (29.0 kg) bag of Sikacrete 421®-CI Rapid

Application steps

MIXING

  • Wet down all tools and mixing equipment to be used.
  • Pour the required amount of clean, cool, potable water into a suitably sized and clean mixing container using a calibrated measuring jug or similar, to ensure strict control of the water content. Do not overwater.
  • Add the required amount of SikaCem® Summer Extender per bag of selected rapid hardening, cementitious repair mortar into the water (based on actual ambient and substrate temperature conditions) and stir until it is dissolved.
  • Slowly and carefully add entire contents of bag containing the selected rapid hardening, cementitious repair mortar to the container while mixing with a low speed drill (400 - 600 rpm) and mortar paddle, or in an appropriate mortar mixer.
  • Mix mortar to a uniform consistency (typically not to exceed a maximum 3 minutes) until a lump-free, consistent blend is achieved.
