NYC IS UPPING THEIR RAIL GAME
As one of the largest public transportation agencies in North America, the New York City Transit Authority (NYCTA) is a vital form of traveling for millions of commuters. In fact, according to the MTA statistics in 2021 the subway had a daily ridership of approximately 2.4 million with an annually ridership of 760 million. Some other notable stats show that there are more than 6,455 subway cars that traveled about 331 million miles in 2021, 472 subway stations and 665 miles of track.
Due to the magnitude of this transit system, it requires an extensive maintenance program to keep the trains running. This includes replacing worn down tracks and the timber railroad ties where the tracks are secured. Great care was exercised to prevent any disturbance of the new railroad ties that the tracks are secured on after they have been placed in the correct position. Once in place, the railroad ties are leveled off and need to be supported by a fast setting, high strength, cementitious material. A quick solution is needed for this project due to the work being performed over the weekend in order to have the tracks ready for Monday commuters. A high strength material is required because of the amount of weight that will be needed to support the trains when they are operating on the tracks.
After extensive testing, it was confirmed that SikaQuick 800 would be the solution for the job and now the railroad is up and running for the masses. It’s projects like these that put into perspective how important a trustworthy product solution is for our customers and we will continue to honor our slogan of building trust every day.
