Sikadur®-6061 UW is a two-component epoxy paste adhesive designed to be applied to surfaces below the waterline.
- Marine grade adhesive. Will adhere to wood, concrete or steel, above or below the water line
- Excellent workability. Can be glove applied, hand troweled, or pumped
- Suitable for low-temperature applications. Cures down to 40 °F (4 °C)
Usage
- Adhesive for sealing seams in FRP jackets and forms (used with Sikadur encapsulation systems as seam and gasket adhesive)
- Bonding adhesive for concrete, steel and other rigid materials in damp enviornments
- Suitable as a seal cap for crack injection
- For use on piers, bridges, offshore structures, dams, and sea walls

NOTES ON INSTALLATION
- Minimum application temperature is 40 °F (4 °C).
- To obtain maximum bond strength, local water conditions have to be taken into account and appropriate surface preparation procedures have to be followed. For further information, contact your Sika Representative.
- Make certain the most current versions of product data sheet and SDS are being used
- Proper application is the responsibility of the user. Field visits by Sika personnel are for the purpose of making technical recommendations only and are not for supervising or providing quality control on the site.
SUBSTRATE PREPARATION
Concrete Surfaces
1. New concrete must be fully cured (28 days minimum) before application of Sikadur®-6061 UW epoxy paste adhesive. The substrate must be clean and sound.
2. Remove all marine growth, paint, grease, oil or other contaminants by sandblasting, waterblasting or rotary abrading. Create an anchor profile, if possible.
Steel Surfaces
1. Steel surfaces must be cleaned to meet SSPCSP6-63,“No. 6 Commercial Blast Cleaning.”
Wood Surfaces
1. Remove all marine growth, paint, grease, oil and other contaminants by sandblasting, waterblasting or rotary abrading. Remove unsound wood.
MIXING
Hand Mixing
1. Mix only the amount of paste that can be placed within the specified pot life. (Higher temperatures shorten pot life).
2. Place equal parts of A and B on a flat disposable palette (i.e., sheet of cardboard) and mix with a flat-bladed scraper or trowel. Mix until all evidence of the original white and black colors have disappeared and a uniform grey color is achieved.
3. Mixed paste may be placed into disposable cartridges for use with hand or powered caulking tools.
Mechanical Mixing
1. If plural component equipment is used to mix and place Sikadur®-6061 UW epoxy paste adhesive, place equal amounts of A and B in the appropriate hoppers of the equipment.
2. If placement is delayed for periods greater than 10 minutes, purge the static mixer or replace the mixer element, if necessary.
APPLICATION
1. When applied to surface under the waterline, it is necessary to “work” the paste on to the surface, being careful not to entrap water between the paste and the surface.
2. When used to cover cracks, work paste into one end of crack and progress along crack to other end, displacing water from the crack. Smooth outer surface with glove or trowel.
3. When used to anchor embedded items, spread evenly over surface of embedded item and inject additional paste into cavity. Using caulking tool or plural component equipment with sufficient nozzle length to reach base of cavity.
4. Push embedded item into cavity, displacing any water or air in surface of paste with glove or trowel.
5. If outer surface is vertical, it may be necessary to provide a temporary dam of plumber’s putty or other support, to prevent the paste from sagging.
Supported Paste
1. Sikadur®-6061 UW epoxy paste adhesive may be applied to surfaces under the waterline, using a fabric support.
2. The paste is spread onto glass fiber mat or mesh to provide a film thickness of 1/8 to 1/4 inch (3 mm to 6 mm). The coated fabric is worked against the surface, with care taken to prevent entrapment of water or air bubbles between the surface and the fabric.
3. Some of the paste must be forced through the fabric to thoroughly embed the fabric.
4. Additional paste may be applied to the outside of the fabric, if necessary. Smooth the outside surface of the paste and feather edges with a gloved hand.
CLEANING OF TOOLS
Mixed epoxy is much easier to clean up before it hardens-solvents such as acetone, methyl ethyl ketone (MEK) and toluene may be used. Commercial epoxy strippers are recommended for hardened epoxy. Consult solvent manufacturer's usage recommendation.
