Originally designed by G. Lloyd Preacher, the Cape Fear Hotel opened its doors to the public on January 10th, 1925, and quickly became the heart of business and civic life in Wilmington, NC. It was even a frequent home to renowned NBC news anchor and Wilmington native, David Brinkley, who recalls his time as a reporter for the StarNews covering the many meetings that happened in the hotel’s mezzanine. The nine-story neoclassical building initially had 150 rooms which contained a private washroom and featured many amenities such as a dining room, coffee shop, ballroom, a ladies parlor and a barbershop. The first and most notable guest to stay at the Cape Fear Hotel was Roger Babson who was known as a famed economist and a one-time Prohibition Party Presidential candidate.
The Cape Fear Hotel has since been renovated to an apartment complex for senior citizens. Now known as the Cape Fear Hotel Apartments, the historic building was in need of some repairs. The park deck was in need of a traffic coating system that could withstand the test of time and Sika was chosen for the job. See below for a complete list of products used on this prominent project!
