Sika® MB EZ Rapid

One component rapid drying moisture barrier, adhesion promoter, and substrate consolidator for flooring on critical substrates

One-Component, Rapid-Drying, Polyurethane Resin, Moisture Mitigation System and Substrate Solidifier. Sika® MB EZ Rapid can be used as a fast-curing moisture mitigation system for interior use only on cement-based substrates up to 98% RH or 18 lbs./1000 sq. ft./24 hrs. before applying SikaLevel® underlayments and SikaBond® adhesives. Sika® MB EZ Rapid can be used as a solidifier over a variety of critical substrates, such as adhesive residues and gypsum substrates.

Usage

Moisture barrier to control moisture vapor emission rates in cementitious substrates not exceeding up to 93% RH/12 #CC as a one-coat system or above 93% RH/12 lbs./1000 sq. ft./24 hrs. up to 98% RH/18 lbs./1000 sq. ft./24 hrs. as a two-coat system. For substrate consolidation on concrete, cement, and gypsum screeds. Adhesion promoter for old and new adhesive residues in conjunction with other Sika® products. For glue assist applications using a single coat in combination with SikaBond® Construction Adhesive, Sikaflex®-11FC, and SikaHyflex®-150 LM. Suitable on concrete, cement, self-levelling and gypsum substrates, OSB, plywood, water-resistant adhesive, and cutbacks.

**Treat Sika® MB EZ Rapid as a non-porous substrate. For wet and semi-wet adhesive installations, SikaLevel®-02 EZ Primer should be used and the surface smoothened with a suitable levelling compound prior to the use of resilient adhesives.

Application steps

SUBSTRATE PREPARATION

All concrete surfaces must have an open textured surface to allow Sika® MB EZ Rapid to penetrate the surface and function properly as a moisture barrier or substrate consolidator. All substrates must be porous per ASTM F3191, dry, stable, sound, and free of all contaminants such as grease, oil, paint, wax, dust, curing, and sealing compounds that will interfere with the adhesion of Sika® MB EZ Rapid. All loose friable material, including preparation residue, must be completely removed using a vacuum. Water-soluble adhesive cutback should be removed completely. Water-resistant cutback adhesive loose material and ridges should be removed. Old asphaltic cutbacks can contain asbestos which is dangerous for the health so do not grind, sand, or blast. Moisture vapor emission rates of the substrate should comply with and meet the requirements of Sika® MB EZ Rapid. Before overall installation begins, Sika® recommends the application of several small test patches to determine primer application requirements and the acceptability of final product performance.

 

APPLICATION

  • Stir or shake before use.
  • Apply Sika® MB EZ Rapid uniformly (crosswise) to the substrate using a medium ¼” nap roller, ensuring that a monolithic coat is achieved over the entire surface.
  • A minimum waiting time of 1 hour (or dry to the touch) should be performed between a two-coat application of Sika® MB EZ Rapid.
  • After a drying time of approx. 1 hour (or dry to the touch) from the last coat applied, prime with Sika Level®-02 EZ Primer prior to the installation of SikaLevel® underlayments or patching compounds. If SikaLevel®-02 EZ Primer is not applied within the first 48 hours after drying, abrasion of the surface and solvent wiping without affecting the moisture mitigation properties should occur.
  • SikaBond flooring adhesives can be installed directly to Sika MB EZ Rapid after a drying time of at least 2 hours and within 48 hours. If SikaBond® adhesives are not applied within the first 48 hours after drying, abrasion of the surface and solvent wiping without affecting the moisture mitigation properties should occur.
  • When applied as a single coat, Sika® MB EZ Rapid can be used as a vapor retarder on wooden subfloors for glue assist applications. Adhesive must be applied within the Sika® MB EZ Rapid open time of 48 hours followed with the nailing of the wood flooring. 

CLEANING OF TOOLS

Clean all tools and application equipment with cleaning solvent. Hardened/cured material can only be removed mechanically.
