Sika® Speed Dowel Plus

Slip Dowel Installation System with Lateral Movement

Speed Dowel Plus® is a patented slip dowel installation system that provides load transfer across construction joints and immediately accommodates lateral and axial movement produced by concrete shrinkage and differential slab movement. The sleeve has a one-piece design with alignment marks and preinstalled nails to allow for quick and easy installation. The integral fins eliminate lateral restraint between concrete sections. Speed Dowel Plus® provides a practical dowel alignment method for transferring loads across, and managing stresses within concrete slab-on-ground joints

Sika’s Speed Dowel Plus system provides the additional capability of lateral movement to standard round dowel systems, similar to capabilities of traditional plate dowel systems. The spacing chart above is based on spacing recommendations in accordance with ACI 360R-10. For best performance, smooth dowels are recommended. Patents: US20160222600A1, US9546456B2   Advantages:

All Speed Dowel Plus® sleeves are boxed for easy handling. 3/4” x 14" Speed Dowel Plus® sleeves are sold in cartons of 140. 1” x 14" Speed Dowel Plus® sleeves are sold in cartons of 100. 1-1/4” x 16" Speed Dowel Plus® sleeves are sold in cartons of 80.

Application steps

APPLICATION INSTRUCTIONS

APPLICATION

1. Snap a chalk line or use the Speed Dowel Plus® alignment tool along the form to the desired dowel depth. Ideally, the centerline of the Speed Dowel Plus® sleeve is positioned at the centerline of the slab.

2. Set forms and nail the Speed Dowel Plus® sleeve to the form with the preset nails provided. Speed Dowel Plus® dowel thickness and spacing shall be per contract documents. Pour and finish the first slab according to ACI specifications. IMPORTANT: Use internal vibration to consolidate the concrete around the Speed Dowel Plus® sleeve.

3. Strip forms and bend nails flush with the face of the construction joint.

4. Insert the smooth round dowel through the label and into the sleeve cavity. If possible, this should be done while the concrete is still green for easier placement. Do not use excessive force while inserting smooth dowel as this could potentially damage the concrete.

5. Pour and finish the adjacent slab(s), again use an internal vibrator to consolidate the concrete around the Speed Dowel Plus® dowels according to ACI specifications.
