SikaTile®-200 Fracture Guard Rapid
FAST DRYING ELASTOMERIC CRACK ISOLATION MEMBRANE
0.0 (0)
SikaTile®-200 Fracture Guard Rapid is a single component, fast-drying thin, liquid applied crack isolation membrane for installation under ceramic tile or stone in residential, commercial, and industrial environments. With excellent elongation, adhesion, and high strength properties, SikaTile®-200 Fracture Guard Rapid provides a thin, continuous barrier providing up to 1/8” (3 mm) of in-plane crack isolation. SikaTile®-200 Fracture Guard Rapid dries in 1 to 2 hours depending on ambient conditions and is then ready to receive any Sika polymer or epoxy mortar.
- For use on all sound common surfaces
- Crack isolation up to 1/8”
- Excellent elongation will inhibit the transfer of cracks
- Antimicrobial for mold and mildew resistance at the substrate
- Rapid drying – Begin tile and stone installation in 1 – 2 hours
- Easy installation with brush, roller, or trowel
- Excellent adhesion – bonds to most flooring surfaces
- Does not increase surface elevation
- Interior or exterior
- Low VOC’s
Usage
SikaTile®-200 Fracture Guard Rapid may be installed over any sound substrate normally acceptable to receive ceramic, quarry, porcelain, and stone tiles. When installed in accordance with manufacturer’s specifications, SikaTile®-200 Fracture Guard Rapid will inhibit transferring of shrinkage and non-structural cracks caused by horizontal movement, when tile and stone finishes are used. Ideal for both residential and commercial applications. RECOMMENDED SUBSTRATES SikaTile®-200 Fracture Guard Rapid can be installed in most interior and exterior residential and commercial installations on floors over the following recommended substrates:- Brick Masonry
- Cement Backer Board1
- Cement Mortar Beds (cured)
- Cement Terrazzo
- Ceramic Tile and Stone
- Concrete
- Exterior Grade Plywood2
- Gypsum Drywall2
- Gypsum Mortar Bed
- Gypsum Oriented Strand Board2

30 - 35 mils
Final film thickness ≥ 15 Mils
Cure Time
1 - 2 hours
*When cured at 70 º F (21 º C) and 50% RH. Ambient conditions may speed or slow drying times.

80 sq. ft. per gallon at 30-35 mils thick
MIXING
Ready to use - stir by hand prior to use
APPLICATION
Read all installation instructions before installation. Ready to use product, do not dilute and stir by hand prior to use. Fill all cracks with SikaTile®-200 Fracture Guard Rapid using a flat trowel. Apply SikaTile®-200 Fracture Guard Rapid to the surface with a trowel, brush, or roller. Normal coverage is approximately 80 sq. ft. per gallon at 30-35 mils thick. After SikaTile®-200 Fracture Guard Rapid has dried (approximately 1 hour depending on surface porosity and ambient conditions; cool and wet weather may delay drying time), tile or stone may be installed directly over the membrane using a polymer modified tile setting adhesive.
Finish Surface Installation
Apply finish flooring in compliance with methods of installation over crack-isolation membranes. Do not install any defective, damaged, or any finish flooring surface not for its intended use. The installation of this product does not eliminate the need for movement joints, including perimeter joints with a tiled surface. Provide for expansion and control joints as specified per TCNA Method EJ171. Do not cover expansion joints with mortar.
SikaTile® elastomeric membranes, when properly installed in accordance with the following installation guidelines, will provide years of protection for finish flooring installations. In addition to these instructions, installers shall also reference the most current edition of American National Standards Institute (ANSI), Tile Council of North America (TCNA) Handbook for Ceramic Tile Installations, The Marble Institute of America (MIA) Dimension Stone Design Manual, NWFA (National Wood Flooring Association) and Manufacturer's instructions of selected setting materials, substrates, sub-floors, or other manufacturers being used in total, or any part of, an installed flooring system with SikaTile®. Consult your selected manufacturer of these above mentioned components to ensure selected products are compatible with SikaTile® elastomeric membranes.
CLEANING OF TOOLS
Clean tools and tile with water before the material dries.
FAQ
If the plywood is acceptable as a substrate for ceramic tile and the deflection values are met, you may use any of the SikaTile® liquid-applied membranes over the plywood as a bond coat. See the SikaTile Technical Data Sheet for installation instructions.
Do not use liquid-applied membranes over hardwood flooring, particleboard, Masonite, plank flooring, treated plywood, vinyl, laminate flooring, floors containing asbestos, gypsum-based floor-patching compounds. Contact SikaTile® Technical Service at 201-933-8800 with any questions.
You may begin tiling as soon as SikaTile®-200 Fracture Guard is dry.
Yes. Any existing expansion joint or soft joint (saw cut) must be honored throughout the entire assembly per TCNA EJ-171. Expansion joints and saw cuts are part of the construction of the building and need to be kept in place.
Perimeter joints still need to be honored per TCNA EJ-171. Just because a crack-isolation membrane is used does not mean that the tile will stop expanding and contracting.
A crack-isolation membrane is a form of insurance. No matter how new or old your concrete substrate may be, it always moves through expansion, contraction and stress. When a crack appears or already exists and a hard product like tile or stone is applied over that substrate without protection, those cracks can transmit through the entire installation, creating unsightly fractures in the tile or grout.
Once the liquid-applied membrane has dried to the touch and does not transfer, you may begin installing a polymer-modified mortar.
Liquid-applied membranes are monolithic when applied and have no seams. Peel-and-stick (PNS) products are typically 36” wide and need to overlap for wider applications, creating a seam that could potentially leak. Liquid-applied membranes are also great for areas that may not be square or have a radius. PNS products do not conform to applications that have a radius or out-of-square area and will more than likely need to be folded, causing an area for potential leaks.
SikaTile® liquid-applied waterproofing and crack-isolation membranes should be applied at a wet-film mil gauge thickness of 30 mil for first coat. This includes embedded reinforcing fabric at change-of-plain areas. After the membrane has dried, a second application needs to be applied without fabric needs to be applied at 30-mil wet thickness for a total of 40-mil thickness after drying/curing.
