The Precast Reinforcement that Enhances Profits.
Manufacturers of precast products can experience immediate savings on materials with Sika® Fibercast®-500 micro synthetic fiber solutions, but that is just the beginning of the cost reductions. With reduced rework, labor, and cycle times, Sika® Fibercast®-500 dramatically lowers costs throughout the production process.
Our SikaFiber® macro and steel fibers, meet the NPCA Best Practices Manual, which has recognized fibers designed to the fib Model Code to replace traditional steel in precast structures. Fiber reinforced concrete has shown to speed up production and decrease cycle times. Additionally, steel and synthetic macro fibers have been tested and proven to work in RCP (Reinforced Concrete Pipe). ASTM and European standards are available for these applications.
Proven in a wide variety of applications: Septic tanks, Marine products, Agricultural products, Burial vaults, Utility structures, hazardous material storage, manhole cones, risers, and statuaries.
Offers substantial savings in time and money.
- Sika® Fibercast®-500 micro distributes evenly through the concrete, creating a network of support throughout the form.
- Sika® Fibercast®-500 micro reduces rework costs by preventing shrinkage cracks from forming during the concrete's plastic state and reducing spalling.
- SikaFiber® macro fibers eliminate the time required for making and placing cages in the concrete form.
- Lowers labor costs through simplified placement since the reinforcing is in the mix.
- Improves finishing and reduced spalling.
- Lessens your reliance on specialized mix designs, because our specialist fiber solutions are proven to reduce porosity.
- Removes the labor required for making cages and storage.
Shortens cycle times by adding unprecedented green strength.
SikaFiber® technology can enhance handling strength, due to extraordinary improvements in the green strength and cohesiveness of precast forms. With Sika® Fibercast®-500 fibers, cycle times are reduced up to 30%, which lowers plant overhead per unit and increases total production.
Precast Segments for Underground
Concrete tunnel linings can either be precast segmental linings, shotcrete, or poured in place. In the past, tunnel contractors have been faced with the ardous task of correctly placing wire mesh or rebar reinforcement in tunnel linings. It is now common practice to reinforce the linings with fibers or a combination of fibers and rebar. Fibers have been in use for over 25 years as a reinforcing method in linings since they offer a more effective production as well as higher durability and fewer precast panel rejections. The performance characteristics of quality assured steel and macro fibers now make it possible for tunnel linings to be manufactured entirely from fiber reinforced concrete.
Fiber reinforced tunnel segments can be designed through the use of ITA Technical Guidance notes for Precast Fiber Reinforced Concrete Segments, or ACI 544.7R Report on Design and Construction of Fiber-Reinforced Precast Concrete Tunnel Segments.

- Steel and macro concrete fibers are designed to improve the flexural toughness and energy absorption of the concrete.
- Increased ductility in tension and compression.
- Increased impact resistance.
- High resistance against spalling during shipment and jacking of tunnel segments which leads to improved joints between segments.
- Provides superior crack width control.

Reinforcing the structure.
The shape of tunnel segments lead to complex traditional reinforcement arrangement, which can be replaced in full or minimized with SikaFiber® reinforement.
It is important to maintain the structural integrity of the concrete segment by limiting the concrete cracking, mainly in curing, transportation, and assembly steps. SikaFiber® three-dimensional reinforcement defends the segment against the impact loads and point loads from the TBM rams.
Additionally, with the use of SikaFiber® reinforcement in tunnel segments, cathodic protection is removed due to the fact that the fibers are dispersed in the concrete matrix. The lack of contact between fibers does not allow the onset of current. Furthermore, the use of Sika® Fibermesh®-150F reinforced concrete increases the fire protection performance of the material, limiting the spalling.
