Vapor Retarder Primer TA

Solvent-based bitumen primer

Vapor Retarder Primer TA is a blend of bitumen and solvents used on concrete decks and approved primed gypsum board prior to applying Sika’s torch-applied vapor retarders. The primer improves the attachment of Sika’s torch-applied vapor retarders to the properly prepared and dry concrete surface. It is also used to prime concrete decks prior to the application of hot asphalt for Sika’s ply sheets.

Coverage

The coverage rate is 166 – 277 ft2/gal (0.15 – 0.25 L/m2) depending on the porosity of the surface.
Application steps

SUBSTRATE PREPARATION

All surfaces must be clean, dry, free of dirt, dust, debris, oils and other contaminants. Old asphalt or other residue must be removed to the extent possible before priming in order to obtain acceptable membrane adhesion to the substrate.

MIXING

Mix well before use using a drill and mixing blade. Do not dilute.

APPLICATION

Apply the primer with a brush or roller and allow primer to dry completely before applying Sika’s torch-applied vapor retarder or hot asphalt. Reprime the area if the surface becomes contaminated. Install Sika’s torch-applied vapor retarder or hot asphalt within 24 hours of the application of Vapor Retarder Primer TA.
