SikaMix® AE-6 M

INTEGRAL WATER REPELLING AND EFFLORESCENCE REDUCING ADMIXTURE FOR MASONRY      MORTAR

SikaMix® AE-6 M is an integral water repelling and efflorescence reducing admixture for use in masonry mortar. SikaMix® AE-6 M has been used to meet the requirements of ASTM E514, "Standard Test Method for Water Penetration and Leakage Through Masonry."    SikaMix® AE-6 M has also been tested in masonry according to the following standards:   

  • ASTM C1072, "Standard Test Methods for Measurement of Masonry Flexural Bond Strength"
  • ASTM C1403, "Standard Test Method for Rate of Water Absorption of Masonry Mortars"

Use of SikaMix® AE-6 M results in the following benefits:   
  • Improved integral water repellency throughout the mortar,
  • Reduced efflorescence and improved appearance, uniformity and color vibrancy,
  • Reduced water absorption and chloride penetration,
  • Increased overall mortar durability and extended service life.
   SikaMix® AE-6 M does not contain intentionally added chlorides.

Usage

SikaMix® AE-6 M is part of the SikaMix® water repellency system. SikaMix® AE-6 M provides water repellency through the entirety of the mortar and reduces efflorescence as well as improves and maintains color intensity. SikaMix® AE-6 M provides a high quality mortar with high quality joints and bonds in construction projects. When used ensemble, the SikaMix® water repellant system will provide a superior level of waterrepellency.

Shelf Life

Shelf life when stored in original packaging in dry warehouse conditions between 50°F and 70°F (10-21°C) is one year from the date of manufacture.

Storage Conditions

SikaMix® AE-6 M should be stored between 50°F and 70°F (10-21°C). If the product separates or settles, reconstitute the product to normal state by agitation. If frozen, admixture cannot be reconstituted and must be discarded accordingly to local laws. Protect from direct sunlight.

Application Information

Mixing

To maximize admixture performance do not introduce SikaMix® AE-6 M to dry cementitious materials. Optimal performance is achieved when SikaMix® AE-6 M is added directly into mixing water. Alternatively, SikaMix® AE-6 M can be added to the mortar after the water has been added and blended. After the introduction of the remainder of mix components, mix thoroughly. Mixing time will vary based on the equipment used.
Consumption

Recommended Dosage

The typical dosage rate of SikaMix® AE-6 M for masonry mortar applications is 8 fl oz (237 mL) / 80 lb (36 kg) bag of hydrated lime, masonry cement or mortar cement. Shake well prior to use.

 

Trial mixes with the actual materials should be conducted to determine the required dosage for optimum performance.

 

To the extent specialized materials are used, extreme ambient temperatures are encountered, or for other unusual project conditions, dosage rates outside the typical range may be required. For dosage rates outside the typical range, please contact your local Sika representative or the Sika Technical Services Department at 1-800-933-7452.
