SikaControl® SC

SHRINKAGE COMPENSATING AND REDUCTION ADMIXTURE

SikaControl® SC is a shrinkage compensating and reduction admixture used to produce concrete with reduced potential for drying shrinkage, cracking and curling. SikaControl® SC meets the requirements of ASTM C494 / AASHTO M194 Type S and is NSF/ANSI Standard 61 certified.

  • Greatly reduced cracking potential related to drying and autogenous shrinkage.
  • Reduced curling and increased joint spacing.
  • Substantially improved impermeability, resulting in improved concrete durability and life cycle.
  SikaControl® SC does not contain intentionally added chlorides.

Usage

SikaControl® SC can be used in any type of cast-in-place or precast/prestressed concrete, grouts, mortars or any other cementitious mixes. Some of the applications of SikaControl® SC may include:
  • Concrete floors, to compensate for drying and autogenous shrinkage, cracking, control curling and increase joint spacing.
  • Utilized in topping slabs to minimize cracking.
  • For bridge decks and parking structures.
  • For durable concrete in marine environments.
  • For watertight concrete in reservoirs, sewage treatment plants, and dams.
  • For low shrink grout applications.
  • Minimize shrinkage in heavily restrained structures.

Shelf Life

Shelf life when stored in dry warehouse conditions is one year.

Storage Conditions

SikaControl® SC should always be stored in a dry environment.

Exposed, unprotected material will absorb moisture and carbon dioxide from the air resulting in reduced product performance.

Application Information

Mixing

SikaControl® SC can be added to the concrete either along with the other powder components or after all the other ingredients are added to the concrete mixer or truck. If it is added after all the other ingredients, adequate mixing should be ensured. The 25 lb repulpable bags are designed to disintegrate through a combination of wetting and grinding the paper during concrete mixing.

 

Limitations:

Do not introduce repulpable bags into concrete mixes with low water cementitious ratios and smaller size aggregates as these mixes may not develop sufficient mixing energy to fully repulp the bags. Always determine repulpability of bags by pretesting mix designs and batch sequence.

Compatibility:
SikaControl® SC can be used in combination with other Sika admixtures and can be successfully used in mix designs utilizing supplementary  cementitious materials.

  
Consumption

Recommended Dosage

The recommended dosage range for SikaControl® SC is from 2–7 % by wt. of cement mass for concrete, mortars or grouts.

 

To the extent specialized materials (such as microsilica) are specified, extreme ambient project conditions are encountered, or other unusual
project conditions require special consideration that affect dosage rates, please contact your local regional Sika office or Sika technical service
