Sikament® SPMN

High Range Water Reducing Admixture

Sikament® SPMN is an efficient blended superplasticizer which allows to reduce water content in concrete mixes. Sikament® SPMN produces highly fluid concrete which is easy and fast to place. Sikament® SPMN is especially designed for horizontal work with improved finishing characteristics. Sikament® SPMN meets the requirement of ASTM C 494, Type A and F admixture.

Usage

Sikament® SPMN can be used in all types of concrete including plain, reinforced, extruded, precast and prestressed concretes. Sikament® SPMN is especially effective in concrete containing pozzolanic materials such as fly ash, silica fume or slag. Sikament® SPMN is a non-chloride based admixture.

Shelf Life

Shelf life when stored in dry warehouse conditions between 50 °F and 80 °F (10–27 °C) is 1 year from the date of manufacturer.

Storage Conditions

Sikament® SPMN should be kept from freezing. If accidentally frozen, its properties can be restored by thawing and thoroughly re-mixing by mild mechanical agitation.

Application

Application Information

Mixing

Sikament® SPMN can be dispensed into any of the concrete materials except dry cement, slag or fly ash. For optimum results, introduce Sikament® SPMN toward the end of the mixing process. Sikament® SPMN maintains its superplasticized consistency for up to 90 minutes depending on the environmental conditions. Ambient temperature, transport distance and job site delays may dictate job site addition of Sikament® SPMN. The addition of this product at the job site requires thorough mixing at high speed. Completing the mixing process with two minutes of mixing at slow speed will minimize the on-site air entrainment.

   

Compatibility: Combining Sikament® SPMN with any Polycarboxylate based admixture may result in a rapid slump loss. Mixing and transporting equipment should be thoroughly washed between subsequent batches of concrete containing admixtures with Polycarboxylates and Sikament® SPMN. Sikament® SPMN is compatible with other Sika non-polycarboxylate based admixture. However, each admixture should be added separately to the mix. Sikament® SPMN is compatible with all types of ordinary portland cements and supplementary cementitious materials.
Consumption

Recommended Dosage

For most applications, the dosage rate of Sikament® SPMN is between 2 to 15 fl. oz. / 100 lbs. (0.13 to 1.0 L / 100 kg) of total cementitious material. The dosage can be increased up to 30 fl. oz. / 100 lbs. (2 L / 100 kg) or above if higher water reduction is needed or to meet specific requirements of concrete.

  

Dosage rates vary depending upon the amount of plasticity and / or water reduction desired. Various concrete materials, slump, ambient air temperature, additions of pozzolanic materials, mixing time, and type and brand of cement will affect dosage rates.

  

It is recommended that trial mixes be conducted in order to determine the required dosage for optimum performance with your concrete components. Consult your local Sika representative or Sika Technical Services Department at 1-800-933-7452 for dosage recommendations.
