Squaw Valley Resort

PROJECT DESCRIPTION

Squaw Valley has a rich olympic history. In the village the Squaw Valley Resort served as the site of the 1960 Winter Olympics and since then it has catered to winter sports enthusiasts and summer flrolickers from around the world. At the end of the village there is a tram that takes you 2,000 feet up the mountain for a breathtaking view of the mountain range and the valley below. The Tram base is a concrete structure with a roof deck beneath that protects the occupied lodge area below.

UNIQUE PROBLEM

"It has leaked on and off for forty years."

The concrete roof deck beneath the tram was an ongoing concern due to water intrusion into the occupied lodge area below. The project was to remove an aged built up roof system completely down to the structural substrate. The replacement solution had to be high performing and long lasting.

PROJECT SOLUTION

Sikalastic RoofPro -641 Lo-VOC system. After limited concrete preparation, Sika's moisture mitigating, GDC Primer was applied to the entire concrete substrate. With rain & snow in the forecast, after the primer cured a thin “construction coat” of the resin was placed over it to extend the exposure window up to 7 days. When the applicator returned to compete the system, they were informed that no leaking was observed during the weather event. Even with only the primer coat and construction coat in place, Sikalastic 641 performed outstandingly. Ultimately, a full system featuring Sika Reemat Premium, as the fiberglass reinforcement and then a seed and backroll finish were installed. Now the Squaw Valley tram and lodge can enjoy many years of watertight performance with their roofing/waterproofing solution.
