Sika® WT-240 P

CRYSTALLINE PERMEABILITY REDUCING ADMIXTURE

Sika® WT-240 P is an integral powdered crystalline based permeability reducing admixture. Sika® WT-240 P meets the requirements of ASTM C494/AASHTO M 194, Type S and is certified to NSF/ANSI/CAN 61.

Sika® WT-240 P uses a unique combination of active ingredients which react with ingress moisture within concrete. This reaction forms insoluble compounds throughout the capillary system in the concrete matrix resulting in crack healing properties and an improved resistance to water permeability. Additionally, Sika® WT-240 P has minimal impact on set and strength characteristics.   Sika® WT-240 P also provides the following benefits:  
  • Uniform waterproofing throughout the entire concrete volume,
  • Improved resistance against hydrostatic pressure,
  • Ability to seal non-moving concrete cracks up to 0.016 in (0.40 mm),
  • Improved durability and service life,
  • Lower construction costs compared to traditional types of waterproofing,
  • Potentially eliminates the risk of damage to traditional types of waterproofing systems during the construction process.
  In addition to the use of Sika® WT-240 P it is recommended the concrete is designed for a minimum cementitious content of 590 lbs per cubic yard and a maximum water/cementitios ratio of 0.42. For optimum permeability reduction, proper curing of freshly placed concrete per ACI 308R-01 - Guide to Curing Concrete should be followed.   Sika® WT-240 P does not contain intentionally added chlorides.

Usage

Sika® WT-240 P is designed for use in various watertight concrete applications including but not limited to the following structures:   Industrial Applications:

  Sika® WT-240 P can be used in the production of SCC (Self-Consolidating Concrete) and conventional slump concrete, and is effective in concrete containing Portland Limestone Cement (PLC/Type IL) and supplementary cementitious materials.

Shelf Life

Shelf life when stored in unopened original packaging in dry warehouse conditions between 40°F and 80°F (5-27°C) is one year from the date of manufacture.

Storage Conditions

Sika® WT-240 P must be stored in a dry environment. Damaged, exposed or unprotected packaging will absorb moisture resulting in an unusable
product. Open bags should be properly sealed to prevent moisture ingress; however, the shelf life of resealed bags may be reduced.

Application

Application Information

Mixing

To assure homogeneous dispersion, maximize product performance and complete bag disintegration, it is recommended to add Sika® WT-240 P during the mixing process at the concrete plant. Time of addition depends on the concrete plant set up. 

 

The 24 lb bags of Sika® WT-240 P are repulpable and designed to disintegrate through a combination of wetting and grinding during concrete mixing. The bags are intended to be added unopened and directly into a central or truck mixer prior to the aggregate loading phase. Do not add the bags to freshly mixed concrete as this may lead to insufficient bag disintegration, lumping, balling and inadequate homogeneity of concrete.

 

Always allow Sika® WT-240 P to thoroughly mix at medium/high speed for at least 1 minute per cubic yard or a minimum 3 minutes.

 

Compatibility: Sika® WT-240 P can be used in combination with other Sika admixtures and can be successfully used in mix designs utilizing supplementary cementitious materials.

 
Consumption

Recommended Dosage

The typical dosage rate of Sika® WT-240 P is 2% by weight of cement or cementitious materials. Various factors will affect the dosage rates.

 

Trial mixes with the actual materials should be conducted to determine the required dosage for optimum performance.

 

To the extent specialized materials are used, extreme ambient temperatures are encountered, or for other unusual project conditions, dosage rates outside the typical range may be required. For dosage rates outside the typical range, please contact your local Sika representative or the Sika Technical Services Department at 1-800-933-7452.
