SikaWall® Wallease Base Coat

Formerly LaHabra® Wallease Base Coat.

SikaWall® Wallease Base Coat is a polymer modified cement base coat used in a variety of applications over portland cement stucco, concrete masonry and decorative EPS foam shapes.

  • Flexible application: can be applied in multiple layers.
  • Minimizes telegraphing of block wall (CMU) grout joints by evening the suction/absorption of blocks and mortar.
  • One component, just add water.

Usage

  • As a level coat over portland cement stucco, concrete masonry, and decorative EPS foam shapes.
  • SikaWall reinforcing mesh embedment over portland cemet stucco.
  • As a basecoat for repair/patching of existing stucco.

Chemical Base

A blend of cement, lime, aggregate, fibers and dry polymer.

Shelf Life

12 months from date of production if stored properly in original, unopened and undamaged sealed packaging.

  • 33-40 ft2 (3.06-3.72 m2) per bag at 1/4 inch (6mm) average thickness
  • 66-80 ft2 (6.13-7.43 m2) per bag at 1/8 inch (3mm) average thickness
  • 132-160 ft2 (12.26-14.86 m2) per bag at 1/16 inch (1.5mm) average thickness
 
Application steps

SURFACE PREPARATION

  • Remove all loose debris or dirt before applying SikaWall® Wallease Base Coat.
  • Moisten portand cement surfaces prior to application.
  • Cracks deeper than 3/8 inch (10mm) should be filled with a thick mixture of SikaWall® Wallease Base Coat and be allowed to harden before basecoat is applied.

MIXING

  • SikaWall® Wallease Base Coat is mixed with 1.2 gallons (4.50 L) to 2 gallons (7.5 L) of cool, clean and potable water depending on the intended use and the desired consistency:
    • Patching and an application thickness of 3/8 inch (9.5 mm) requires 1.2 gallons (4.50 L).
    • An application thickness of 1/8 inch (3.2 mm) requires 1.6 gallons (6.06 L).
    • An application thickness of 1/16 inch (1.6 mm) or less, and for mesh embedment requires 2 gallons (7.57 L).
  • SikaWall® Wallease Base Coat can either be mixed with a hoe in a wheelbarrow or can be slowly mixed with a drill and mortar paddle in a bucket.
  • Add 90% of all water to start, followed by slowly adding the SikaWall® Wallease Base Coat powder.
  • Mix completely, adding only small amounts of water as necessary.
  • Once mixed, allow material to sit for 5 minutes, then briefly remix before application.
 

APPLICATION

Over Concrtete Masonry Walls:

  • Depending on the surface variations of the wall, apply SikaWall® Wallease Base Coat in a sufficient thickness (see mixing instructions above) to completely cover blocks so that their shape does not protrude from basecoat.
  • SikaWall® Wallease Base Coat can be applied with the traditional hawk and trowel method.
  • To level and smooth the surface, spread the material around the wall with a 12 in. (30.48cm) drywall taping knife. Avoid cutting into the mortar joints by spreading the basecoat at an angle to the joint. Once the material is smooth and plumb, allow it to dry to a firm consistency.
  • Before the SikaWall® Wallease Base Coat is completely dry, float the surface with a damp plaster float (green sponge with handle). This process will remove any minor defects in the original basecoat application.

Over Conrete Masonry Foundation Walls:

  • Apply a thin layer (see mixing instructions above) of SikaWall® Wallease Base Coat over entire surface.
  • If surface has only minor deviations, a brush applied mixture of SikaWall® Wallease Base Coat may be sufficient.
  • If leveling and/or smoothing is required, please refer to the procedures for CMU above.
  • SikaWall® Wallease Base Coat can be left as a finish if only a gray, concrete appearance is desired.

CLEANING OF TOOLS

Immediately clean all tools and mixing equipment with water after use.
