Sika Gives Back at AEC Cares Project DC
On June 5th, Sika employees attending the AIA 2024 conference in Washington DC took time out of their schedules to help volunteer at AEC Cares Project DC. Sika and other sponsors worked together to renovate Sasha Bruce Youthwork's Residential Empowerment Adolescent Community Home (REACH). The team had an amazing day giving back to the local community before the show began.
A busy day with meaningful projects..
The Sika team was put to work for an all-day event in Washington DC, with over 10 Sika volunteers from all over the United States. The groups were split up with other volunteers to paint, build furniture, landscape, and renovate areas. The REACH facility is made up of 4 connecting houses. Teams were put to work painting the kitchen, living room, pantry, hallways, bathrooms, and multiple bedrooms. The rooms were completed with beautiful accent walls that other volunteers and design teams created.
After the rooms were cleaned and the paint was dry, new and renovated furniture was brought into the bedrooms and living areas to complete the look.
While some of our team was painting and working on furniture, others on the Sika team were outside working on a new landscape design for the front and backyard. Some of these tasks included new pavers in the backyard, mulch and flowers in the front and backyard, and new stairs to allow these tenants to enter the space safely!
It was an amazing day for the Sika team and all the volunteers to see the project come to life at the end of the day.
Sika is excited to continue our partnership with AEC Cares during the AIA conference next year. We will see you in Boston!
