Through Sika’s partnership with the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) “Better Climate Challenge,” Sika accepted two awards this year. These prestigious awards honor organizations that demonstrate bold leadership in energy efficiency, decarbonization, water conservation, and waste reduction.

The awards were presented at the 2025 Better Buildings, Better Plants Summit, an annual gathering of industry professionals, DOE partners, and sustainability leaders in Washington, D.C..

Sika’s Sustainability Team, working closely with Operations earned this distinction by implementing two impactful projects that significantly advanced our environmental goals:

Sensor-Alert System to Improve Efficiency and Productivity

By modifying quality control automation on four production lines in Chattanooga, TN, Sika detected and responded more efficiently to broken extruded polypropylene strands. This targeted fix led to a 7.2% reduction in plant energy consumption, along with:

  • Reduced vacuum run time by 83%, saving 240 MTCO₂e
  • 2.5% increase in production efficiency, saving 235,000 kWh and $25,700
  • Lower rework volumes, improving operational flow

Pilot to Reduce Water Use and Treatment Costs

At our Fairless Hills, PA facility, a pilot program to reduce water use has become a blueprint for others. Through refined washout procedures and shared line optimization, the site achieved:

  • 54% reduction in water sent offsite for treatment
  • 934,300 gallons of water saved
  • $93,000 in avoided treatment costs

These projects reflect Sika’s commitment to operational excellence and environmental responsibility. We’re honored to be recognized by the DOE, and even more proud to contribute to a better-built, better-performing world.
