SUSTAINABILITY – PROJECT OF THE YEAR AWARDS

There’s no recognition in commercial roofing for excellence and design quite like the winners of the Sika Sarnafil Projects of the Year Awards. Each year winners are chosen for their work in categories ranging from Low Slope New and Re-roof Construction, Steep Slope, Waterproofing, and Sustainability. This competitive yearly event focuses on recognizing outstanding achievements by our approved applicator network in areas of design, application, and installation within these categories.

This year, we’ve awarded two very special projects for their excellence in the Sustainability category exemplifying Sika’s goals of more value, and less impact. Congratulations to Bi-State Roof Systems of Valley Park, Missouri for their excellent work on Centene Plaza in St Louis, Missouri and Noorda BEC/Flynn of Nampa, Idaho for their efforts on the Salt Lake City Airport in Utah!

A HEALTHY CHOICE

Centene Plaza is the new home to Centene Corporation, a national healthcare provider that is leading the way by not only taking an interest in the health of their customers but the plant as well. Centene’s commitment to healthy living drove its pursuit of achieving LEED Gold certification on their new high-performance building.

Sika Sarnafil was called upon when Bi-State Roofing took the job on this unique structure. The 28-story office tower stands tall with a 1,700 parking space garage, retail and office spaces, and public roof plaza. No space was wasted here as four separate sections of roofing were used to install their own green roofs at different levels of the building! These vegetative green roofs stand out amidst the city and are doing a great job at utilizing typically unused space to bring plants back to crowded downtown areas.

HIGH-FLYING SUCCESS

As the first new hub airport to be built in the United States in the 21st Century, Salt Lake City International Airport was already making an impression. From early on in this project, sustainability became an important factor to both the Airport Authority and the general contractor Noorda BEC/Flynn. With a determination to source materials and labor locally, the team set out to build something special and do so they did. Together, they were able to finish work on the newly opened airport which is now in the process of being Gold Certified by the USGBC LEED program.

A beautiful Sika Sarnafil hybrid system was used to replace the aging 30-year old roof assembly to not only meet the sustainability and locally sourced needs, but a fast timeline as well. The Airport’s Engineering team had high praises for Sika Sarnafil’s Technical Team and the value that they added to the success of this installation. Couple that with Noorda BEC/Flynn’s excellent workmanship and it is no wonder Salt Lake City International Airport invited everyone back to work on phase III of their Airport renovation plans.

AWARDS ALL AROUND

With sustainable development, energy-efficient systems, and environmentally friendly products at the forefront of our minds, we at Sika Sarnafil are proud to award these projects as winners of our Projects of the Year Awards in Sustainability for 2020. These contractors put in the work to provide more value to their clients while maintaining less impact on the planet and that is worthy of recognition. Congratulations again to our winners!

All winners for the Sika Sarnafil Projects of the Year Awards 2020, including the two above, will be announced in the beginning of May.
