Chemical Base
Liquid
Shelf Life
16 months if stored properly in original unopened, sealed, and undamaged packaging.
Storage Conditions
Store at room temperature between 60°F (16°C) and 90°F (32°C) in a dry area. Do not expose products to open flame or temperatures above 100°F (38°C).
Partially used canisters:
- Turn the valves into their OFF position
- Do not drain the chemical from the hoses
- Slide the safety on the applicator gun into the LOCKED position
- Remove the old nozzle, but do not throw away. Clean off the end of the gun to ensure the chemical exits are not obstructed. Apply fresh lubricant to the black rubber O-ring. Reattach the old nozzle, which, when clogged with adhesive, will keep air and moisture out of the lines
- After every 7 days without use, dispense a small amount of chemical to prevent crystallization from occurring in the hoses
- Remaining contents must be dispensed within 30 days of the date of initial use
- Do not transfer used hoses to a new canister set in order to prevent cross-contamination
Volatile organic compound (VOC) content
25 g/L (Part A + B Combined)
Application
Coverage
Board application: 3500 ft2 (325 m2) per set depending on the weather conditions and insulation/board type.
Rate is based on an application pattern of 4 ribbons, 1-1/4" (32 mm) beads, 12" (30 cm) o.c. per 4 ft x 4 ft (1.2 m x 1.2 m) insulation board.
Feltback membrane application: 3500 ft2 (325 m2) per set depending on surface roughness and absorption rate of the substrate.
Rate is based on an application of 12" (30 cm) o.c. ribbons.
SUBSTRATE QUALITY
All surfaces must be clean, dry, and free of dirt, grease, oil, or other contaminants or particulates. All concrete surfaces must be cured prior to applying Sarnacol OM Adhesive.
APPLICATION
Attaching hoses to canisters:
- Remove hose and applicator assembly from carton
- Shake canisters back and forth 30 times to get best mix. Put canisters back in carton
- Insert hoses through holes in side of carton
- Attach swivel fitting on red striped hose and finger tighten to the valve outlet on top of the red canister (Part A)
- Attach fitting on clear hose and finger tighten to the valve outlet of the white canister (Part B)
- Tighten both fittings with the 9/16" wrench provided by turning an additional 1/6 turn until firmly attached. DO NOT OVERTIGHTEN. Close lid of each carton to protect from sun, wind and dirt.
Application tips and techniques:
- Apply lubricant to black rubber O-ring. Insert gun into mix tip and then twist to ‘lock’ it in place.
- For stand-up applications, users can elect to attach an extension tube to the mix tip. Slide the collar attached to the extension tube over the end of the mix tip until it fits snuggly
- Protect all surfaces in the immediate area of application from accidental contact with adhesive. Uncured foam may be cleaned off by using any commercially available polyurethane foam cleaner.
- Change spray nozzle after 30 seconds of non-use.
Board application:
Apply the Sarnacol OM Adhesive directly to the substrate using a ribbon pattern. Space 1-1/4" (32 mm) wide semi-foamed beads at a maximum of 12" (30 cm) o.c. to achieve proper coverage rate. Actual ribbon spacing will depend on the wind uplift rating required.
The adhesive will quickly rise to approximately 1" (25 mm) above the substrate. Place the boards into the adhesive shortly after it has reached its maximum rise while it is still wet and tacky and before it reaches its tack free state. Maximum rise typically occurs within 2 minutes of application. The tack free time is usually 3 to 5 minutes. Walk the boards into place and ballast.
A chemical cure takes place securing the board in approximately 4 to 8 minutes after application, depending on temperature and weather conditions. The set up time is typically 10 to 12 minutes. The tack free time and set up time will decrease as temperature increases. Multiple layers of boards should use the staggered joint method of application.
Feltback membrane application:
Apply the Sarnacol OM Adhesive directly to the substrate using a ribbon pattern. Space the 1-1/4" (32 mm) wide beads at a maximum of 12" (30 cm) o.c. to achieve proper coverage rate. Actual ribbon spacing will depend on the wind uplift rating required.
Place the feltback membrane into the adhesive shortly after it has reached its maximum rise while it is still wet and tacky but before it reaches a tack-free state.
The adhesive is designed to provide approximately 4 - 8 minutes of open time during a typical summer day. The membrane must be positioned and rolled into place quickly. A minimum 75 lb (34 kg) steel roller must be used to roll the membrane.
