WHAT IS A LIQUID APPLIED ROOFING MEMBRANE?
Liquid Applied Roofing Membranes/Fluid Applied Roofing Membranes are monolithic, fully-bonded, fluid-based coatings that have the capability of being fully or locally reinforced in transitional areas on a roof. These liquid applied membranes, also known as fluid-applied membranes, can be applied over various substrates such as concrete, brick, wood, mod-bit, TPO, PVC, EPDM and many other surfaces. When these coatings cure, they form a rubber-like, elastomeric, seamless waterproofing membrane with no cracks, gaps or voids to allow the ingress of water. The superior conformability and customization of liquids allow for easy application of roofing systems to complicated details and penetrations with little to no waste. WHY LIQUID APPLIED MEMBRANES?
Easy to adjust to complex details
Liquid Applied systems provide convenience for complex geometries and surfaces with limited access. The membrane and flashings conform to virtually any shape and profile, effectively eliminating pitch pans, metal sleeves, etc. The flexibility of liquid applied membranes makes tending to difficult roofing shapes easy.
Suitable for various substrates
LAM can be applied on almost any substrate. This makes it an ideal solution for most refurbishment projects, as in most cases no striping of the existing roof build-up is required (subject to roof assessment). The membranes provide exceptional adhesion to most common substrate materials including:
- concrete brick
- terra-cotta
- limestone
- wood
- glass
- copper
- steel
- aluminum
- existing bituminous roofing
- many single-ply membranes
MINIMAL DOWN TIME
By removing the neccessity of tearing off the existing roof in most instances, liquid applied membrane systems minimize the downtime involved in refurbrishment. Same-day primer and membrane installation is possible for many applications. Additionally, the building can typically remain in use during installation.
EARLY RAIN RESISTANCE
Once applied, RoofPro systems are waterproof shortly after, providing protection against sudden rainstorms and adverse weather conditions.
seamless
LAM forms one consistent layer on the substrate. There are no joints or seams, which not only adds to the application speed but also lowers the risk of application failures.
FULl ADHESION
Unlike other membranes that are applied to the roof either by mechanical fasteners or partially applied adhesives. In the case of LAM, the membrane is the adhesive. Direct bonding to the substrate prevents lateral water migration. The membrane completely covers the roof with full adhesion, leaving no room for water ingress in case the membrane is punctured.
extends roof's life
LAM not only repairs but also increases the life cycles of old or leaking roofs. With a lower risk of roof failure even in cold climate, roofs are able to withstand deteriorating conditions for years to come. With a high-performance coat on that's married with a reinforcement, LAM systems are able offer another 20 or 25 years on a warranted system
Decreased labor costs
The simplicity involved in the application of liquid applied systems are unmatched, reuquring zero mixing. The next generations of these products make it easier. The need for multiple, high skilled workers are decreased. Laborers that are fairly new to the industry can quickly put down a state-of-the-art, long-term system.
zero flame technology
Many conventional roofing materials (especially torch-applied bitumen) tend to increase the risk of fire damages due to their flammability. In contrast, LAM features Zero Flame Technology and reduces the risk of fires, which additionally can reduce insurance costs.
VARIETY OF COLOR OPTIONS
Liquid Applied systems are available in not only reflective white, but a vast array of colors, as well as customized colors.
KEY FEATURES
MOISTURE TRIGGERED CHEMISTRY
Sikalastic RoofPro systems with MTC (Moisture-Triggered Chemistry) incorporate a unique technology that allows the material to use atmospheric moisture to trigger the curing process. This means:
Systems are capable of curing in a wide range of conditions including extreme temperature ranges and humidity variations.
Unlike typical polyurethane systems, membranes do not release CO2 during the curing process, which can cause outgassing and bubbling.
Unlike typical hot-applied rubberized systems, liquid applied systems do not require a separate UV-resistant protection layer, and do not utilize separate sheet rubber
flashing materials.
ENERGY EFFICIENCY
Liquid applied membrane systems are not only reliable in terms of their durable characteristics, but their sustainability features as well. This includes:
All Sikalastic RoofPro and RoofCoat products come in a reflective white coating that has a high solar reflectance index. This not only reduces the yellowing damage that results from excessive UV exposure, but the coating reflects much of the sun’s light to cool buildings cooler and lower air conditioning costs.
SINGLE COMPONENT TECHNOLOGY
Sikalastic RoofPro membranes are single component resins, which provide several advantages over traditional multi-componenet systems given that there is:
The potential error involved in mixing multiple components is eliminated. Single-component technology alleviates the incomplete curing and variations in membrane performance that can occur if proper mixing ratios of multiple components are not maintained.
Given its single component properties, liquid applied systems to not require separate layers for protection against threats such as UV exposure. This minmizes material waste due to cured, but not applied material.
Additionally, less time is wasted as working time and labor costs are greatly decreased as a result of the technology's simplicity in mixing/applying.
LIQUID/FLUID APPLIED ROOFING PRODUCTS & SYSTEMS
SIKALASTIC ROOFPRO: FULLY REINFORCED LIQUID ROOFING & WATERPROOFING
Our cold liquid-applied membranes combine a moisture-triggered, single component polyurethane resin with either Reemat fiberglass or polyester fleece reinforcement to create a highly conformable, self-adhering and self-terminating roofing/waterproofing membrane resistant to rainfall and ponding water within minutes of application.
Reemat fiberglass mats are high tensile-strength reinforcing mesh that eliminates visible reinforcement overlaps and conforms to many flashing conditions without special cutting and fitting. Non-woven polyester fleece reinforcing mesh has a defined-thickness which allows a single-pass, wet-on-wet application, ideal for many flashing conditions with sharp bends and angles.
SIKALASTIC ROOFCOAT: ROOF COATINGS
Our single component coatings utilize local reinforcement to create a highly conformable, self-adhering and self-terminating roof coating resistant to ponding water. Good for cool, reflective reroof and roof recover/extension applications.
