2022 Projects of the Year Winners
CANTON, Mass. – April 4th, 2023 – Winners of the annual Contractor Projects of the Year competition were announced today by Sika Roofing, the worldwide market leader in resilient and sustainable roofing and waterproofing solutions for non-residential construction projects. 18 winners were recognized for outstanding workmanship among five categories: Low Slope-New Construction, Low Slope – Re-Roof, Steep Slope, Sustainability and Waterproofing for projects completed using a Sika thermoplastic membrane or liquid-applied membrane product.

Low Slope – New Construction Category Winners
Prime Roofing Corp. of New Ipswich, New Hampshire, won for their work on Groton Hill Music Center. Prime Roofing Corp. installed Sarnafil Décor Roof System Reflective Gray membrane and hot-air welded ribs to simulate an architectural metal roof on the Groton Hill project. Texas Roofing Company of Round Rock, Texas, won for Moody Center project. This project called for the installation of an adhered Sarnafil EnergySmart Roof in 60mil white and reflective gray. Eberhard Southwest Roofing Inc. of Las Vegas, Nevada, won for Kirk Kerkorian Medical Education Building at the University of Nevada Las Vegas. Eberhard installed adhered 60 mil Sarnafil EnergySmart Membrane on the tower of the building. A Hydrotech system waterproofed 6,200 square feet of planted green roof space. Professional Roofing & Sales, Inc. of Miami, Florida, won for their work on the Bella Isla Luxury Apartments. This project needed fully covered parapet walls. Professional Roofing was able to do this by using Sikalastic 624 liquid applied membrane. Midland Engineering Company of South Bend, Indiana, won for their work at the Publix Distribution Center. Midland worked on this 977,700 square foot facility installing the Sarnafil RhinoBond Roofing system. Publix Distribution Center also called for over five miles worth of bar compression vapor seals to be installed on the roof project. The LAX Delta Sky Way project completed by BEST Contracting Services of Gardena, California. BEST contracting had to follow and meet stringent CalGreen 2016 Green Buildings Standard Code while installing on this project. The best way that they knew how to do this was using adhered Sarnafil EnergySmart Roof Membrane.
Low Slope - Re-Roof Category Winners
Roofing Services and Solutions, a Tecta America Company of Saint Louis, Missouri, won for their excellent work on the Los Alamos National Laboratory. RSS installed 125,000 square feet of Sarnafil EnergySmart Roof 80mil membrane on 9 sections of steep barrel roofing. Target Solutions of Waco, Texas, won for the GATX Corporation project. Target Solutions worked to install 340,000 square feet of Sarnafil RhinoBond System 80 mil membrane. This 80 mil membrane was almost double the thickness of the original roofing membrane that was removed at the start of this project. Ruff Roofers Inc. of Baltimore, Maryland, won for True Grits Dining Hall project at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County. Ruff Roofers installed 15,100 square feet Sarnafil EnergySmart Roof system on this multi-level roof.
Sustainability Category Winners
Greenwood Industries of Worcester, Massachusetts, won for Boston University Center of Computing & Data Sciences. Greenwood installed 11,000 square feet of Sarnafil EnergySmart roof system with 60 mil membrane as well as 32,000 square feet of Hydrotech Green Roof System. J & S Building Exteriors, Inc. of Attleboro, Massachusetts, won for Bosse Sports Facility. The roof on Bosse Sports Facility was completely covered with a solar roof system that had to be removed and refastened after 62,000 square feet of Rhinobond System was installed. Best Roofing of Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, won for their work on a medical/warehouse facility. A RhinoBond System with 60 mil Reflective Gray membrane was installed on this roof project as well as the re-installation of over a thousand of solar roof racks before completion.
Steep Slope Category Winners
Ideal Building Solutions of Norcross, Georgia, won for the job they did at the Mail Sorting Facility at Memphis International Airport. This facility spanning over 1.3 million square feet called for the installation of a Sarnafil Décor Roof System. Blackmore and Buckner Roofing a Tecta America Company of Noblesville, Indiana, won for their work at Gainbridge Fieldhouse. Blackmore and Buckner re-roofed 15 different roof sections at this facility with the Sarnafil RhinoBond Roofing System. Redd Roofing Company of Ogden, Utah, won for Probst Equestrian Center. This 75,000 square foot project was done to fix a 10-year-old standing seam metal roof that had been leaking from its first day of installation. Redd Roofing installed a Sarnafil Adhered Roof System to allow for better insulation as wellmas prevent any leaking.
Waterproofing Category Winners
National Concrete Preservation Inc. of Miami, Florida, won for their Ill Villaggio Condominium project. The Ill Villaggio project called for the installation of Sikalastic RoofPro cold liquid-applied membrane. This project was done to ensure waterproofing of various substrates on the property. Ewing Waterproofing of Bradenton, Florida, won for The Tampa Edition Hotel project. Ewing installed 45,000 square feet of Sikalastic RoofPro cold liquid-applied membrane on balconies, terraces, and other various locations on the property. R.L James, Inc. of Gainsville, Florida, won for Vista Bay Point Condominium. Vista Bay Point Project needed a waterproofing system to cover leaking domed roofs, amenity decks, pool decks, and unit terraces. R.L James accomplished this also through installing a Sikalastic RoofPro cold liquid-applied membrane system.
Contractors from around the U.S. submitted projects for evaluation in the annual Sika Roofing Projects of the Year competition. All winners were awarded cash prizes, a trophy, recognition at an awards celebration at the International Roofing Expo and marketing support in the form of advertisements, social media, and public relations.
