Sika Roofing & Waterproofing's Best of 2024

Since Sika launched its one-of-a-kind "Old Roof Take Back Program" in 2008, the company has recycled more than 100 million pounds of post-consumer and pre-consumer materials, easing the burden on landfills and conserving natural resources.

When the 90-foot-high skylights of the Atlantic City Convention Center started leaking, they called upon Sika for a financially prudent solution. The answer was Sikalastic® Clearglaze. The single-component polycarbonate aliphatic polyurethane-based sealer was used on 40,000 square feet of glass, mullions, skylight frames, and battens, becoming the largest installation of Sikalastic® Clearglaze in history.

Over ten years ago, Sika partnered with DuPont and developed a sustainable and economical roofing system with a 50-year reuse warranty, The EcoSmart Roof®. The system utilizes Sarnafil® PVC roof membrane, Styrofoam™ Brand Square Edge extruded polystyrene insulation from DuPont, and a roof cover board to produce one of the longest-lasting, most sustainable roofing systems available.

Hydrotech's Garden Roof Assemblies successfully passed a series of tests and met the rigorous requirements to achieve FM Approvals. Hydrotech is the only membrane manufacturer that can offer FM Approval for a vegetated roof assembly.

Sika Roofing & Waterproofing team members once again rolled up their sleeves to help community members through its ongoing relationship with Rebuilding Together.

Sika kept one of its favorite traditions by sponsoring the 14th annual Community Service Day during the International Roofing Expo. In addition to a $15,000 donation, about a dozen team members spent a day replacing a fence, landscaping, painting, and much more.

Later in the year, Sika Roofing & Waterproofing and Emseal team members joined forces and volunteered at the All Dorchester Sports and Leadership (ADSL) facility in Boston. The volunteers rebuilt raised garden beds and a composting bin and re-painted a large floor mural.

The Asphalt Roofing Manufacturers Association (ARMA) named one of Sika’s projects utilizing Hydrotech, the Cielo Apartments in Washington, D.C., a recipient of a 2024 Excellence in Asphalt Roofing Award. 

The operations team at Sika's Roofing & Waterproofing headquarters in Canton, Massachusetts, reached two safety milestones in 2024. The team celebrated one year without an OSHA-recordable injury in November, and it commemorated 365 days with no lost time accidents during the summer.

Sika Roofing & Waterproofing's headquarters in Canton, Massachusetts, welcomed more than 30 members of Women in Manufacturing this past October as part of the organization's annual summit. The visit included a panel discussion, a plant tour, and networking opportunities.

Prospect Waterproofing Company received the 2024 Green Roof and Wall Award of Excellence in the Multi-unit Residential Category from Green Roofs for Healthy Cities for its outstanding work on the second phase of the Wharf neighborhood construction project in Washington, D.C.

Sika Roofing & Waterproofing announced several new products compatible with our PVC membranes. They include Sika Pro-Weld which utilizes thermochromic ink technology to provide applicators with visual verification of correct seam weld temperature and speed, SarnaRoof® Flashing Adhesive DS 100, a double-sided, pressure-sensitive acrylic adhesive film designed specifically for use in adhering our bareback flashing membrane to substrates, and SikaFast 3341, an adhesive specially formulated to adhere to PVDF resin-based metal coatings.

The Sikalastic brand introduced several new technologies this past year, including a gravel roof re-cover system and Sikalastic Conductive Primer. The gravel roof re-cover system is a flood coat system utilizing Sikalastic® 720 with a recycled rubber layer top coated with Sikalastic RoofPro or RoofCoat products for a simple and easy solution over existing gravel roofs. Sikalastic Conductive Primer allows for conductivity over nonconductive substrates along with ELD testing without the need to wet the surface.

While Hydrotech 's Monolithic Membrane 6125®, hot fluid-applied rubberized asphalt,  has more than 60 years of roofing and waterproofing success, the brand introduced alternative technologies and fully warrantable systems for when hot rubberized asphalt may not be suitable. The new products include HydroSeal Deck & Flashing Membrane, a two-component fast-curing, polymethyl-methacrylate (PMMA) resin, HydroSeal 1K Membrane, a single component, low VOC, moisture-triggered, aliphatic polyurethane resin, and Liquid Membrane 7000, a two-component, liquid-applied, asphalt-extended, aromatic polyurethane, waterproofing membrane that adheres to most substrates.
