Sika Corporation's - Roofing & Waterproofing Best of 2025

Sika's Roofing & Waterproofing Team broadened its product offerings to include SikaShield-branded modified bitumen products and systems, including the new “hybrid” membrane, SikaShield HB79. A brand trusted in Europe and other parts of the world for its unmatched longevity and durability, SikaShield is ready to expand its reach to the U.S. modified bitumen roofing market.

At Sika, Sustainability is not just a catchphrase we use; and the Roofing & Waterproofing team exemplified this with two major accomplishments in 2025. 

First, the team received a 97% on the +Vantage Vinyl™ scorecard, maintaining its silver level verification status. Each year, the Vinyl Sustainability Council measures companies’ commitment towards advancing sustainable practices across the vinyl industry, and Sika’s re-verification highlights its dedication to that mission. 

Sika’s Sarnafil G 410 and Sarnafil S 327 membranes were also recertified Platinum by NSF & ANSI standard organizations for roofing sustainability, the highest possible certification in the roofing industry. NSF/ANSI 347 is the standard for roofing sustainability in single-ply roofing membranes and evaluates products in five categories: product design, product manufacturing, membrane durability, corporate governance, and innovation. The Sarnafil membranes not only maintained their Platinum level status but also improved their scores by five points each. 

Sika’s liquid-applied Roofing & Waterproofing product line grew to include a 2-component hot spray pure polyurea resin, Sikalastic ®-835 I. Sikalastic®-835 I provides the same high-quality, proven performance resin system expected from the Sikalastic® family of products. The new solution is for professional, experienced hot spray applicators only.

Sika is excited to announce the availability of its new modular tray assembly over Hydrotech Monolithic Membrane 6125, offering a faster, more efficient, and cost-effective solution for installing vegetated roofs. This next generation system improves on our previous design with irrigation channels to support consistent plant growth, enhanced durability, and easier handling on the job site. This tray design delivers instant green space to rooftops and makes it easier than ever to bring sustainable, high-performance landscapes to the built environment. Benefits of this system include improved stormwater management, enhanced energy efficiency, extended roof life, and increased biodiversity on the roof.

The versatile tray is 12" x 24" and comes in three depths. It can be customized with a wide variety of plant selections to meet project-specific needs. When used with our waterproofing systems, a full system warranty is provided.

2025 marked the 20th anniversary of the iconic Marriott Long Wharf Hotel's re-roof project in Boston. This project not only highlights the customer's confidence in Sika and our proven performance roofing membrane, Sarnafil, but also marks the anniversary of Sika’s first, closed-loop PVC recycling project, taking the old membrane and incorporating it into the backside of new PVC membrane.

Since that first recycling effort at the Long Wharf Hotel, Sika expanded the PVC Roof Recycling Program across North America, reducing landfill waste and carbon emissions.  Over the past 20 years, Sika has now recycled over 100 million pounds of PVC roofing membrane, contributing to LEED certification and helping clients meet sustainability goals. 

In January, Sika announced the additions of Sikalastic®-701 SF, Sikalastic®-702, and Sikalastic®-702 THX to its resin offerings. The 2-component cold-applied resin system is designed for chemical secondary containment & cooling tower areas, exposed roofing, and buried/protected systems.

Customers who desire a VOC-free, adhered roofing solution but prefer a membrane with felt for a smoother appearance are now in luck with Sika’s Sarnafil Self-Adhered Feltback Membrane, the first of its kind in the single-ply roofing industry. 

Sarnafil’s self-adhered bareback membrane and flashing rolls already changed the industry by offering the first fully adhered PVC roof without VOCs and odors. Now those projects that want the benefit of a felt backing, Sarnafil SAFB can offer that too!  

Contributing to the communities we work and live in is important to all of us at Sika, and in 2025, the Roofing & Waterproofing team participated in several events helping others. 

First, the International Roofing Expo 2025 show marked the 15th anniversary of Sika’s sponsorship of the event’s Community Service Day. In addition to being the event's main sponsor 15 years in a row, 15 Sika volunteers joined other show attendees and the San Antonio division of Rebuilding Together to work on two homes in the area.

For the third straight year, Sika also sponsored the AEC Cares volunteer event the day before this year’s AIA convention in Boston. Sika helped fund supplies needed and had 18 volunteers participate in the service day, which took place at Catholic Charities Boston’s Teen Center. 

Sika's Hydrotech systems now offer an unmatched variety of Architectural Pavers, Porcelain Pavers, Wood Tile Pavers, and Artificial Turf options to complete the Ultimate Assembly®.  By incorporating Hydrotech® Monolithic Membrane 6125® as the waterproofing membrane, this single-source warranty system is ideal for roof terraces, vegetated roofs, and plazas. Customers can select pavers from many different manufacturing partners: Hanover Architectural Products, Bison Innovative Products, Wausau Tile, Greenrise Technologies, Unilock, County Material, Belgard, and more. 

Benefits of the Ultimate Assembly include:

• An open joint system that facilitates the flow of water below the paver surface to concealed drains, while also eliminating ponding water and trapped moisture.
• Access to substructure so that maintenance and future alterations are easily accomplished. 
• Installation flexibility due to pavers being set directly on spacer tabs or adjustable pedestals, which can account for a sloped deck to establish a level surface. 
• Single-source warranty that provides the owner with the enduring coverage and a peace of mind that only Sika - Hydrotech can offer.

We couldn’t possibly create a list of our successes without mentioning our annual Projects of the Year Awards. In 2025, we acknowledged 20 applicators for their exceptional work in 2024 across 18 projects nationwide that not only showcased their masterful skill as roofing and waterproofing contractors, but the capabilities of our products and systems as well.
